1086 10mm to 40 conversion

Hi all. I posted in the semi-auto section but thought this might be a question to ask here.

I have a S&W 1086 and i wanted to pick up a 40 conversion barrel for it. But noone seems to be making one anymore. So i got to thinking and maybe someone could chime in about this idea.

Since the 40 is .142(?) shorter than the 10mm, i was thinking (since i have an extra 10mm barrel) why couldnt i turn a sleeve .142 in length, with the OD being the same as the chamber and the ID at the size of the barrel/bullet and press (interference fit of course) this into the chamber of the 10mm barrel up to the shoulder. This would take up the space to allow a .40 to be shot from it.

Am i crazy here? couldnt this work?

Unless this conversion is permanent, How is the sleeve removed to go back to the original chambering?

The sleeve would be permanent... i have an extra barrel so it wouldnt matter.

i just thought it would be nice to have the ability to swap calibers. 10mm's can be hard to find.
