A couple years ago I started down the 10mm road. Asked some questions, received good feedback, and wanted to update the forum on what happened since. Heres that link.

I ended purchasing a Sig Sauer P220 Elite 10mm in single action 2 yrs ago, (and a Dan Wesson Razorback this spring :) ....). I hunted with the Sig last year and missed one I should have hit, and it haunted me all year. I think I missed because he came too fast I couldn't think the shot through. I went from thoroughly bored to firing in about 5 seconds :o.... This year I practiced from stand, and was more thoroughly prepared.

I was rewarded with a nice bodied 9 point buck last night night! The Sig 10mm with Underwood's 200gr XTP JHP worked perfectly. Hit him in the lungs, and he was too stunned to run off. He ran 15 yards, stood there for a few minutes, then walked another 20 ft and fell. There was no exit wound. He was following a doe and I was able to rest the gun on the stand and wait for him to enter the shooting lane, about 25-30 yards away. Couldn't ask for a better way for it to go down.

Sorry for the lousy pic, I was too pumped to take a better one last night. This is the nicest deer I have taken, and to do it with my favorite handgun after last years debacle, then preparing hard for this year's hunt and sitting on stand for 10 hrs yesterday was overwhelming. Going to butcher him this morning and have some sausage for winter!!

10 mm

Congrats Cashfan!
Nice deer! And taken with the one hand arm.
Years ago when I still hunted I had a Model 27 converted to .44 special. Carried it during hunting but deer always seemed to be just out of handgun range. Sadly quit hunting so never got the chance.

Nice job, been shooting the 10mm since it's inception. You have two great pistols, and you are shooting a great load, which happens to be my carry load in my EDC. Have handgun hunted since the 70's, your first one will stay in your memory forever.

Back when i started hunting, Indiana firearm season was limited
to Slugs from shotguns, Muzzleloaders, and later, Handguns chambered
mostly in pistol only calibers.
So my first few years Deer hunting were with a Thompson Contender
in .357 Max. If i did my part it was 4 hooves in the air after a shot.

Very rewarding to take one with a handgun at close range.

Congrats on a fine Buck !!!

Congratulations on a fine buck. I took last seasons first doe with a 1076 and the same load that you used for your buck. My shot was about 10 yards. She did basically the same thing as your buck, stood there for about a second and a half after the shot then moved off slowly, finally dropping after about 30 yards and what seemed like an hour.

Killed a 4 pointer with a Glock Sub Compact in 40 caliber 2 years ago, and I wasn't even hunting deer that day.

You let that animal stand there for several minutes as it suffered and bled out? Didn't put in another shot?

I'm not favorably impressed.

Great job, and nice buck.
I primarily hunt with handguns and rotate through several for hunting.
Have taken deer with various .44's and .41's, and have taken my Colt Delta Elite 10mm many, many times. It's jinxed, I'm convinced. Never see anything when I'm hunting with it.
Congrats!

Congratulations as I would be proud as that's a nice buck taken with your pistol.

Thanks Everybody!

I know he isn't a trophy by trophy hunter standards, but he is a trophy to me!

I've gotten a couple deer with a .44 before, but this one will be very special. I am not a hardcore hunter and don't do very many things right, so to still get a nice buck was pretty awesome! I was hoping for nice doe, as we just want some good meat. The horns were a nice bonus!!
