I agree with Caj... let's support our troops with the best gear we can send them... but HOW MUCH for those pants? Wow! Makes me wonder if that was the LOW bid???

The "standard" pants are $86.00? ***!!!
I guess war is really about profit for the Robber Barons.

No wonder a .gov contract is the holy grail of business...

Kinda wonder what the cost of an M4 with all the accessories goes for.

I don't think the price is bad at all. How much to folks pay for a pair of "Designer" jeans"?

What I am afraid of is the cost of the training and 100 page manual that will go with it.;)

At least the contract went to severely handicapped individuals.

You all are overlooking what these pants will provide. As someone who has been there, I can tell you that the normal trousers don't hold up well to daily use in an urban or rural environment. These guys spend a lot of time going to a knee and shuffling around in rough terrain. I have seen a brand new pair of trousers worn out in one day from the abuse they take. A new pair of trousers costs around $45 the last time I looked. If they last a week under normal daily wear in country, that's good. But these new trousers look like they might outlast the current stuff. If they do, then the cost savings will be better than what is currently issued.

You are worth it-I just made the comment that I thougt $125 was high. This post is not intended to do anything other than question the inherent waste in the procurement system.

Well if you think $125 is too high for clothing for the people defending our Country you could say $1000 is WAY too high for a vest and trauma plates. Sure it keeps our troops alive but not everyone gets shot in the chest. What do you think? Get rid of 50% of the vests? True the VAST majority of enlisted have to resort to Food Stamps to feed their family's but lets cut their pay back a bit more also. Save you some more money.

How about the 92% survival rate for the wounded? We can save a few bucks by getting rid of some Medievac choppers. Maybe drop it to 90%? That would also save you some money.

Why don't you come to the VFW, American Legion, or the VA Hospital with me and you can preach how we are wasting money trying to give those, defending our Country, practical clothing that will last.

It's ALWAYS those who have NEVER worn a uniform that are experts telling us what we REALLY need and what we don't.

Well, I also think that $125 for a pair of pants is BS. Need knee pads? Strap on a pair, they don't need to be sewn on. In fact if you think about it for just a few seconds you'll realize how stupid that idea is.

Anybody who thinks $125 for a pair of pants is BS doesen't have the right to say so if they've never been in the military?....Or worse yet, never done a combat tour?

I wern't no hero. But, I been there, done that, and got a couple "T" shirts. And $125 for a pair of pants is BS. They should be spending that money on MORE body armor, medivac choppers, and pay, not BS BDU (ACU, ATU, or whatever the current term is) pants!

Don't know what your "T" shirts say but mine say GRUNT! As such protecting your knees is a very important thing. Try crawling around , getting shot at, shooting back, and trying to adjust pads that MOVE, all at the same time.:eek:

Well, if they can be made for $85 then yea $125 is too high. And if a $1000 vest & trauma plate can be had for $500 without sacrificing quality-then yea that's too high too. Go back and read my post again CAREFULLY. Fiscal responsibility has nothing to do with providing the best gear. Uness you are the one making the pants and selling them to the military. Part of the problem the country is in the state we're in is this blank check mentality-Think with your head and not your heart man.
