With more info I think it is a LAPD modified gun. Sept. 1967 ship date and s/n also fall inline with post 20 of Onion Field& LAPD K-38 thread. Thanks for the help!

New to me today. Didn't know they existed. Model 14-2, 4" pinned & ribbed barrel with 1/8" patridge sight. Semi target .375 hammer and .265 trigger with stop. Grooved fore and back straps, Magma square stocks number to gun. Serial K7536XX. Do not see it in SCSW 4th. What is it?

I can't find your revolver in the Performance Center area and unless it is stamped with "AFPG", I'd guess that it was re-barreled somewhere along the line.

Does your 14-2 have a "heavy", i.e. large diameter barrel similar to that of a Model 10-6? If so, you may wish to search this forum for the "Dayton" or "Hanen" Special, Model 14-2 or try a "google" search.

I was fortunate to obtain a "shooter" almost two years ago as a retirement gift from my wife. It shoots like a house on fire and is a revolver I will never part with. If that is what you have, you are very lucky.

Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to provide additional information.

This model 14-2 is outside of the Dayton Gun Sports/Hanen Special known SN ranges. The factory did make small runs of 4" K-38s (meaning model 14-like barrels) over the years so this may be one of these, or it may be a shortened 6".

Photos, especially of the front sight install and the barrel crown, are always helpful. :)

Alan is correct (as usual) but all of the Dayton Model 14s (in rear) and special runs of 4" K-38s (in front) that I've seen have a Baughman ramp front sight . . . not the Patridge as described by the OP.

CalReb posted a picture of a barrel like you are describing. You may have a converted LAPD weapon, from this article that was posted years ago!

The Onion Field and LAPD K-38s

Note in post #60 of the above referenced thread the modified LAPD barrel (top) does retain the Patridge front sight as described by the OP.

Without seeing pictures I would assume a gunsmith-cut 6" barrel with re-attached Patridge front sight. Again, as Alan said, pictures are always helpful.

Thanks for the photos. It certainly fits with an LAPD modified gun but unless you know the owner or have its history it would be difficult to confirm. A letter of authenticity showing it shipped to the LAPD would be more, but not definitive, evidence.

Did S&W ship direct to LAPD or would the purchase have gone thru a dealer or distributor?
I'll see if I can get any info from the seller. He got it at a auction in Tennessee recently

In that era, my guess would be a local distributor or dealer rather than the LAPD or city. But Cheshire and Perez (as an example) would point in that direction and Bangor, Maine not. :)

Maybe I'm wrong, but the script on the left side of the barrel could help in defining the originality of it: if the barrel has been cut, the writing smith & wesson will be out of center, as we can see on the pic of linde

Left side script off center. Photos added.
