15-22, Meh...

I don't know guys, but I just have not really warmed up to my 15-22.
It's OK and all, but other than looking and acting like an AR it really doesn't do anything better than my Ruger 10-22s (except being more expensive).
It gets dirty quickly especially when running a suppressor, had to change out to a real AR hammer just to get the pin to quit walking, and all plastic except for the barrel and bolt.
Plus it's no more accurate than my standard 10-22, and can't even come close to my customized ones.
If I had to chose just one .22 to take in a survival setting, it sure wouldn't be the 15-22.

Yep why keep something you don't like sell it and get another 10-22. There are lots of plastic guns out there that work just fine not just the 15-22 It's the cool factor.

Gunslinger, in all seriousness, the 10-22 is a fine weapon. I came close to getting one until I found the 15-22. However, I guess I was looking for something that is not a factor with you. I own a .223 AR & was looking for something cheaper to shoot. To me, what sets the 15-22 apart from all other .22 AR types is that it mimics the use of an AR better. It is not 100% but nothing comes closer. It is so close, I understand some police departments use it for training as the ammo is so much cheaper.

So when I shoot my 15-22, I am reinforcing muscle memory & actual memory in how to operate an AR. Last thing I want to do is fumble around with the operation of my AR, if & when I really need it. To me the best thing to have handy in a survival setting is good training... not any specific gun.

That's weird, mine makes me eggs and bacon every morning! Yours must be defective? But really, what did you expect? The 10/22 is a fantastic rimfire rifle, so the only reason to get a 15-22 over a 10/22 would be the fact that it functions and feels like an AR. I bought mine because I wanted a quality AR trainer. That's what I got, and I could not be happier. If I just wanted a .22 plinker and didn't care about the "AR" factor, I would have saved my money and bought a 10/22. The 15-22 gives you the reliability and accuracy of a 10/22 rolled up in a dedicated AR platform. It is a fantastic rifle that does exactly what it was designed to do. To me, the "fun factor" could not be higher.

Accuracy, for a rifle with a free floated barrel accuracy is lacking.

Dependability, gums up and jams after 400 rds or so, less if a suppressor is used.

Polymer, yeah it's OK, but really on a $500+ .22 a little more metal and heft would be nice, at least the charging handle and bolt release.

Walking pins, not just me but quite a few folk have problems with this.

Lack of repair parts, just try to find an extractor and extra springs.

Upper can't be used on a regular AR lower, this was a strike on me, if I had researched it better I would have known, still it'd have been nice to be able to use it on a select fire lower when I feel like a little rock and roll.

Now I didn't start this thread to anger folks or belittle their choices, if you guys enjoy yours that's great.
I'll probably take Majorlk's advice and sell it to fund a dedicated .22 upper.
Or I might keep it, it is a cool toy, but really just didn't live up to my expectations, especially for what it cost.

I bought mine as an impulse buy as I was picking up my pistol from my FLL. He had this on the wall alongside a Mossberg version at half the price. He threw in a few hundred rounds of CCI mini-mags to go with it.

Honestly, it is fun to shoot. Yeah, the plastics seem to make it cheap, but I've had no issues after a few hundred rounds (I managed to pick up a few thousand 22lr rounds before they totally vanished or became insanely priced).

I put on a red dot laser and had issues with calibration, so I put back on the iron sights. I won't try to hit a target at 1000 yards, but close in I defy anyone to want to get hit by one. Seems to do fairly well at about 100 yards, though I really need a tripod.

For a third of the price (or worse) compared to a "real" .223 in these parts, it was worth the purchase to me.

Again, not typical. I've had a couple of 2k days at the range without a hitch. Maybe your cleaning technique needs some adjusting.

I guess you haven't looked at the current crop of high end pistols. Virtually all are polymer framed. This is not a combat firearm, so the two items mentioned are adequate as manufactured. If you don't like the charging handle, both Plinker Tactical and NDZ Performance make reasonable aluminum replacements.

I've put less than 500 rounds through my 10/22 in the last year. I've put 10k through the 15-22 in the same timeframe.
