15-22 Purpose?

First post here, been reading for awhile. I live just across the state line from Phil, so hey Phil from your Ringgold neighbor.

I've owned a S&W AR-15 for a couple of years and really enjoy shooting it but the cost to feed it is annoying. Put a thousand rounds through the 22 and it's paid for itself.

I've only plinked with it outdoors so far (less than 2 mos ownership) but next week a new indoor range opens up less than a quarter mile from my office and I've joined. Expect to put a lot through the 22 and all my handguns.

I'll also carry it instead of my 10/22 at times squirrel hunting but don't do that too often. Usually only during deer season prep or post season withdrawls.

Phil, you a member at Chatt Rifle Club? Got an app I'm about to submit and wondering about waiting list length/time.

I just got back from the indoor range with mine. It get's everybodys attention.Shot a full box of Fed 550 bulk, not one issue, except the time it takes to load 4 mag's. :( .The .357 realy got every ones att. :D Including the range master that was out in the lobby:)

MCG, hey neighbor!

Yes, I'm a member of CRC. Waiting list used to be years cuz no one gave up their membership till death....;) But there was a house cleaning of non participating members this year so a lot more applicants have been accepted. If you aren't a member of the NRA then you should join before sending in your application.
Good luck. Send me a PM if I can help with anything.

Not a big "joiner" of national groups. Not even a member of my state or national professional organizations. Chose to opt out as I don't like the fact that no group that large can truly represent my positions and the fact that mine were more liberal leaning.

If not being a member of the NRA is going to keep me out I'll have to think about it. Couple of friends/colleagues are members or CRC and one is sponsoring my application if I'll ever get it to him to sign!

Great board you have here and I look forward to continuing to peruse it and if ever accepted maybe doing some shooting at CRC.

Shooters Depot is opening a second location on Battlefield Pkwy and my office (fam med doc) is literally maybe 300 yds away. Really looking forward to doing a lot more shooting particularly this time of year when my outdoor "range" is also where I deer hunt.

What happens when you shoot a shotgun shell? Sounds dangerous. Used/empty you mean?

We shoot it all. Golf balls on tees, frozen water bottles, Dollar Store shaving cream, cheap cans of soda, Barbies, etc. Also like to play "H-O-R-S-E" where each shooter has to make the shot or get a letter.

Yeah, yeah, I clean up after myself.

yeah, empty ones of course. they are good targets. hard to see and if they are sitting right you can make em jump. We usually warm up our shooting days with some trap shooting, so we have lots of empty shells around.

Use mine outdoor only. I am lucky in that I live where I can step out my front door and start shooting if I wanted too. Shoot just about anything I think would be a fun target.

Great for father and son time. I have a 12 year old and this is great for training and I looks cool.

TRAINING!!! talk about saving money! I can put together a 300 round course of fire and it only costs me 20 dollars or so instead of a hundred. This is a great weapon system for CMP training with minimal transition when switching to an actual AR15

-outdoor range shooter
-cheap to shoot
-AR platform
-Parts to modified the 15-22 are endless!

We only shoot outdoors (I've never actually shot indoors or even at a range). I can shoot just out my door, up in the hills, or at my woman's sister's house. It, along with our "big" AR and all our other toys get worked out fairly often, but it's great that this platform is so dang cheap to shoot....but there's nothin like hearin & feelin one of the big cannons go off every so often.

And of course, it's the

Official Zombie Squirrel Eradicator, hands down.

Purpose?

For me the purpose of my M&P15-22 is "M4 Carbine Trigger Time."

At 3¢/shot compared to 30¢ (now that I'm usually buying my own ammo rather than shooting my Uncle's) the lil' rifle has already paid for itself.

I've set mine up as close to my minimalist (and 20 year old) M4 Carbine. Other than the M60 CCO sight there are no gee-haws or gimmicks on either rifle.

I really like the setup in the second picture. How clear is the red dot that far down the gun?

The dots are perfectly clear. Tests in the Army determined that the farther from your eye you can mount the dot the easier it is to obtain and to transition between targets. With both eyes open the dot is "just out there." You don't see the sight, just the dot. Dropping the covers helps too as they obscure less folded this way.

You shouldn't be trying to look thru the sight, just find the dot. You don't even need to open the front cover for the M68 CCO (AKA "Aimpoint") to work.
