I finally received my 15-22 back from S&W but it came back pure filthy. I knew that the tech guys had to replace the extractor and test fire it, and I even expected it to come back a little dirty. Oh boy! did it ever. My gun was really dirty inside and out. Almost as if it had been lying in a dust vat. Also, the paperwork stated that S&W "Replaced Mag."

Well they hadn't. Another member on here pointed out how their 1st Gen mags (I'm going to call them this right or wrong ;) ) have 22 LR with 25 Round under them and the 2nd Gen mags have 22 LR only. All four I sent were the same (1st Gen), plus I number my mags usually somewhere inconspicuous.

I didn't want to post anything on here until I had actually shot at least 1,000 rounds or more through the gun after coming back from S&W.

After I received my 15-22 back, I called S&W. I ended up speaking with an extremely helpful and very pleasant lady named Kelly (last name withheld). She was very apologetic and even sent me two new 2nd Gen mags as well as giving me a made in the USA T-Shirt for my troubles.

I have since put 11 or 1,200 rounds through my 15-22 with ZERO FTF or FTE. I mean ZERO. I have a new outlook on this gun now. I love it. I have had pure unadulterated fun since it came back earlier this week. I just want to thank Kelly for going the extra mile with CS. They often get a bad rep and from me as well, but this time they came through on every issue for me.
Cheers :)

Glad to hear. With your posting and a couple others lately reference the magazine.... the light at the end of Mag-Snag-OOB Tunnel may be near.

Wait, so the 2nd Gen. just has the .22lr on it?

All 7 of my mags just have the 22lr, none say 25 round.

Do i have the 1st gen or the 2nd gen?
they all work 100%.

The other guy on this forum has his " new " mags that are updated as having 22lr with 25 rd underneath. You said the 2nd gen mags had 22lr on them. Which ones are the good working updated version?

I need to talk to Kelly. I didn't get such a warm fuzzy CS feeling from S&W when I called. However, glad to hear you got the CS that everyone should be getting.

Someone posted Kelly's # here in the past. I talked with her twice and it seems like she is the only one at S&W that knows anything. Just found it. Kelly at 1-800-331-0852 ext. 3766

I am assuming that all of the 2nd Gen have 22 LR only and not the 22 LR with 25 ROUND underneath. On S&W website, the pictures are of the mags with 22 LR only.

I purchased my gun in early October 2009 and the mags were 22 LR 25 ROUND underneath. The mags sent as a courtesy have 22 LR only. All 6 perform perfectly now.

I think ChattanoogaPhil has a 15-22 very similar to mine that starts with DTHXXXX and he has had no problems. Other than the extractor and me adjusting one magazine the gun is perfect now.

Phil what does the original mag have on it? 22 LR only or ..?
I still think 22 LR is 2nd gen and 22 LR 25 ROUND below was 1st Gen, but please correct me if I am wrong.

The bottom of the mag has no markings. On the right side of the mag above the S&W logo is marked "22 LR". Yes, I have a DTH series.

O.k now I'm officially confused. I have dth series with 22lr only marked on it. Which is it! rip 3000's post said the opposite.

I can only tell you what I got. Didn't someone post pics with a blue follower sitting up a lot higher when the mag was empty than one with a red follower? Somewhere underneath all the gunk on mine is the color red... somewhere...

That post was talking about a 10 rd mag. This is the post i'm talking about that makes me think I have the 1st gen magshttp://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-long-guns/120458-new-25-round-15-22-magazine.html He clearly says that the new mag is on the left with 22lr and 25 rd mag under it.

Yes, there does seem to be a little confusion here. I have NEVER seen a mag with 25 round on it, other than that pic.

Just a thought. Maybe S&W's original intent was to produce a short 10 round mag but then scraped the idea. Now they are sending out 25 round mags limited to 10 rounds via a pin.

They have decided to use one mag size for both applications. It stands to reason that a pinned 10 round mag should not say 25 rounds on it. Maybe they dropped the 25 rounds wording when they dropped the short mag idea.

Yeah but, like i said, Ive been shootin this thing for a while now and have never seen the "25 round" mag.

What IMHO, would make more sence is if they decided to ADD 25 rnd to the mag to make it "easier" to tell the 25 nd 10 apart.
