I have a 15-3 that shipped in 1969. It is in decent condition, and as far as I can tell, all original. It has some blems on it that make it a great shooter grade gun, of which it does very nicely.

Now my question for any experts on these guns. The SCSW 3rd says that the 2" and 4" guns came with smooth .312" triggers, and that the later 6 and 8 3/8" guns came with serrated triggers, with one reported but not verified 2" having a serrated trigger. My 4" has a serrated trigger on it. I suppose the trigger could have been swapped at some point in its past, but the case colors and overall appearence match on the trigger and hammer very closely, which to me suggests that they were both from at least the same time frame, if not from the original build of the gun. Does anyone else have one too, or do I have something a little different here?

For the production life of 15-3s and for many years both before and after the standard trigger in 15s was a .265" serrated service trigger. Either you misread the SCSW or you found one of its many errors. 15s were very common revolvers. I never saw one with a smooth trigger in the 1970s.

I kinda wondered if it was one of the many mistakes in the book. It's on page 181, left hand column, at the bottom of the page. Most of the ones I've seen and handled had the serrated trigger, but those were from much later runs than mine, so just wanted to check.

Quote from SCSW 3rd-

"Square butt with walnut Magna style grips with S&W medallions and diamond around the screw escutcheon. .312" smooth combat trigger on 2" or 4" barrels with an adjustable trigger stop available (at least one 2" reported with serrated trigger, but not verified). .265" service trigger on 6" and 8 3/8", .400" target trigger on 4" barrel."
