I was loading ammo into the M&P FS magazines last week. I had just bought 50 rounds of 147g and filling 3 magazines. One extra round was placed next to the full box on the bench. I wasn't paying attention and came up short with the last magazine and only had 16 rounds installed. Thinking I had drop a round, I searched and couldn't find it.

I picked up magazine one and the odd windows were full to 17.
Check magazine two and the even windows were full. WHAT??? Now I missing two rounds.

I thought, NO WAY... I pushed one round out and now the odd windows were full to 17!

I HAD 18 ROUNDS IN THAT MAGAZINE!!!

I then proceeded to put 18 rounds in all three magazines. They went in -
with even a little more play and spring action. I installed a magazine and racked the slide and the round went into the barrel as designed.

Next day, I went by the local gun shop and demonstrated my discovery on one of the M&P 9FS on display. Jaws dropped.

Has anyone else experienced this???
What can go wrong with this?

Holy **** mine can do that same. I still would leave it at 17 just in case of feed problems.

Interesting, just checked my FS 9 Pro and there is no way I could shove an extra round in the mags. 17 is it.....

I can get 18 in mine also. I learned it the other day when a guy on YouTube said you could do it.

Don't know I could handle this kind of high-impact drama so am glad I got rid of my M&P.

only problem with packing a mag so tight is that if you try to reload with a closed slide, there mags will sometimes bounce and not seat. the bullets need to be able to slide down in the mag just a bit when you are seating the mag.

I had just logged on to brag about this very thing! I discovered it accidentally same as bgs had, but initially only one mag would allow me to do this. As time passed, the other loosened up enough to allow 18 rds. I had gotten a third magazine for Christmas that was a slightly different design, but after a few range trips, it too allowed the additional load. I also learned in a sort of humiliating fashion what evnash said, dropping a mag twice at a USPSA event.

So I can't say for sure if it's worth it, I may just get extended mags for USPSA shoots.

As I posted earlier I found out about this last weekend but I still only put 17 in them. I just trust 17 more and really if 17 will not get it done then that extra round is not important. Lol.

You can often "sneak" in an extra round in almost any brand of magazine. Not a good thing as you are compressing the magazine spring more than as it was designed for. Bill
