1911 made by "Singer"

the war effort 1911's had a stunningly long list of manufacturers to include Singer of sewing machine fame and Smith Corona of typewriters.
some of these oddballs are one piece retirement funds as may be the case here. get your brother to find a replacement for shooting and safe mount that baby

Smith Corona made 1903A3s.

I can find nothing in the Clawson book (regarded as THE USGI 1911/A1 reference) as to Smith Corona making anything to do with the pistol.

SEE-
they're so rare they ain't even written about! :D

Well, I talked to him today and everything seems to check out with what I've been told about these guns. I am sorry I don't yet have picts (my brother is old school - no cell phone, etc.) so I'll have to take them when I next visit. He also is not sure as to what he traded or who he traded with. To be honest, I really don't think he cares a lot about how much the gun might be worth, he just likes it. One thing for sure is I know he won't sell or trade the thing. I offered him $100 for it and he told me to stick it in my ear!!!!

I admire your brother for his position on the gun. I wish I didn't care about money, but my landlord would not like that. Plus I like to buy stuff. However, I can't believe you only offered him $100. You said it seemed to check out, and even if it doesn't, you liked the gun. Man are you cheap or what. Show up with a nice new 1911 and some real money. Better yet, tell him what it might be worth and ask for some of the money for finding the info for him. Do something other than insult him with $100. Nobody would sell any gun they liked for $100.

Oh, I was just kidding him! I told him about everything you guys had to say and what I read. I knew d*mn well where he'd tell me to go with that lowball offer!!! After all, we've been brothers for over 50 years!

Well if it is the real deal, how far away from you is he. Walk, drive, fly, take a train and get some pictures. It could be a real treasure!

Ooops, sorry for my rant. I thought you were serious. I was actually heated. Glad to know I'm just dense.

I offered my brother 10 bucks and a hamburger for his 19-3. He had a different recommendation of anatomy in which to stick it......

Did you go to the link provided????

That 10 year old reference says values up to $25,000.

I sure would care. I could buy 50 Rock Island 1911's for that. No telling what they are going for now.

If it's really an excellent specimen, the sky's the limit in the right auction.

Please PM me with his Name, address and Phone number.

I am going to jump in my helicopter with a suitcase full of cash tomorrow. Like the guy on that Colorado Gun Shop TV show.:D

I can pick a few of you guys up on the way and after we get a ridiculous low price we all go shoot stuff that blows up.:D

Several years ago a Singer 1911 sold at Greg Martin Auction's in San Francisco. As part of the provanace the frame had been Xrayed to prove it was not a fake. It has been so long I do not remember how much it sold for but it was 10's of thousands of dollars if not more!

Now look what you have done!!!!!;)

You have this entire forum sitting on the edge of our seats!

We want pictures.............NOW..................aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

Be sure to congratulate your brother on such a deal he didn't even know about:eek::eek:

When you get around to getting photos be sure they are close up and clear.......

Thanks for bringing this subject up....

Just for a point of reference and for some pictures
of one, i have a Rock Island Auction catalog in my
lap. They have a Singer 1911 coming up in their Sept.
7,8 & 9th gun auction. It is described as in exceptional
condition. Be interesting to see what they bring in current
market.
What a great find for your brother.
And Sip, quit it !! You're killing me....

Chuck
