Just received my 1917 from a member. He included several moon clips. Am I correct that I can shoot my AR handloads "naked" and the 45ACP with the moonies ?

Yes!
You can also shoot the 45ACP in them without the clips as a last resort. Getting them out of the cylinder is a chore without the clips, but it can be done.

How about some pictures of the old boy?

I'll give it a try.

It worked !!

Too cool!

That is the first center fire handgun I ever shot. My dad got one in the '50s from the NRA, I think, with a holster and ammo for under $50 if I remember right.

Did I say; "Too cool!" yet?

This was my brother in law, fathers gun. A Medical officer in the Army. WWII, Korea not sure if it went to Nam. It's a safe Queen.

If you ever get into reloading you will find that the revolver does not shoot .452" lead bullets well.

It will shoot 230 FMJ's fine and to point of aim.

In mine, I found that 454" diameter lead bullets shot the best and without leading.

I will also mention that these old revolvers are lightly built and should not be used with hot loads. There are people who push bullets in modern 45 AR's to 45 LC velocities, or higher. Those loads will beat the heck out of a M1917.

This load worked well in mine, and is about as hot as I want to go in this revolver

250 LRN (.454) 4.5 grs Bullseye thrown, R-P AR cases, CCI300 primers
20-Jan-02 T = 44°F

Ave Vel = 754
Std Dev = 10
ES = 39.5
Low = 744
High = 783
N = 14
Mild recoil, aimpt 5 OC, accurate
