I have a S & W 1943 hand ejector model, 3rd edition. The gun has aftermarket pearl grips and has been been hand engraved, by whom I am unsure. I could probably find the engraver if I removed the pearl grips but I risk them cracking . I do have the S & W letter to authenticate the gun.
A couple of problems with this gun.
1) When they engraved the gun for some reason the made the 5" barrel a 4". Yes they did make a 4" barrel for this gun. However, the letter says it was shipped as a 5".
2) I have taken this gun into a few gun shops and most of them value this gun at $8,000, even with the the barrel size changed. ( I think this is nuts!) Then they offer to take it on consignment to sell for me at 30%
S & W can't give me a value. I need to know if anyone knows where I can get an honest value.
I have looked at the gun auctions etc and can't find anything like this.
