Tuckers

Not to Hijack the thread

Anyone else noticed that Studebakers looked a lot like Tuckers?
I've often wondered of some of the Tucker Designers went over to Studebaker.

I still want headlights that point as the wheel turns. That was a GREAT idea.

I believe there are other cars made that have this feature. If I am not mistaken Lexus has it on some models.

I had a chance to sit in a Tucker car once. The Car was at Wayne Weaver's in Clarion, PA. Wayne was an Oldsmobile dealer and a big car collector. For a little town (about 5000 pop) we had a Duesenberg, A boat tail Auburn, a Gull wing Mercedes, and a 1953 Corvette. There was an engineer who owned one after another two Shelby Cobras.

There's an excellent 1988 movie about Tucker and how the major manufacturers shot him down. "Tucker: The Man And His Dream", with Jeff Bridges, Martin Landau and Joan Allen. Well worth watching.

I've never seen a Tucker; but in my mid-teens, there was a guy who lived just up our street in a very modest neighborhood who owned and drove a white '38 Cord. I'm a '37 model, so the car wasn't that old.

He parked it on the street.

There is a Tucker about 60 miles southwest of here, in Tupelo, Mississippi at the Tupelo Auto Museum; only one I've ever seen in person.

Tucker, What a great automobile and yes the Big 3 went after him!, They were afraid of what he was doing and what it might cost them.
If I ever win the Lottery big time I'd be looking for one to own, one of my favs of all time! I even own shares of TUCKER stock!

I used to see a Tucker car once a week. Gene Cofer of Cofer Bros. Building Supply in Tucker, GA had a huge private automobile collection and would drive the Tucker to work. He had a Cadillac that had belonged to actress Jayne Mansfield too. Mr. Cofer died of cancer a few years ago, I have no idea what happened to his warehouse of cars.

There's a gentleman in Maryland who owns 3 Tuckers. He occasionally lends one out to the Antique Automobile Club Of America museum in Hershey, Pa. It's believed that when he passes all 3 cars will go to the museum.

The Tucker has always been one of my favorites ever since I laid eyes on one.
I do believe I saw that one at Hershey.
There used to be a small car museum in Lancaster County that owned one, missed a chance ride in it too, they had just put it away but had the owner known of my lust for this automobile he would have taken me out in it. Later on he and I struck up quite a conversation on it. My family and I were the only ones there at the time.
Shortly after the owner passed the children sold it at auction, I don't believe the museum even exists any more. :(
