1948 Tucker

Air cooled helicopter engine, also the prototype was using a Cord transmission.
They(the Government) nailed Tucker for selling dealerships and cars before any were produced.

I believe there are other cars made that have this feature. If I am not mistaken Lexus has it on some models.

my VW GTI has "reactive" headlights.

There's also a Tucker at the Auburn, Cord, Dusenberg museum in IN. Along with lots of other cool stuff.

Some of his ideas were....
Turning headlights
Laminated POP OUT windshield
Disc brakes
Side impact bars
Self sealing tires...run flat?
And there's a few more which I can't recall....

All his wild ideas must have scared the **** out of the BIG 3.

It was easy for the Big 3

It was easy for the Big 3 to go after him because he was really selling 'futures' because he had neither the cars nor the ability to produce them. That's called 'fraud'. Too bad, though. Smart man, smart car.

Extra - The Securities and Exchange Commission did have a big trial, but Tucker was acquitted.

The Swigart Museum along US Route 22 between Huntingdon and Mount Union PA has a Tucker on display along with an impressive array of fabulous automobiles. Cord, Duesenberg, Auburn, Pierce Arrow, Packard and one of the original Herbie the Love Bug movie cars can be seen there. Well worth the stop if you are ever in central PA.
