Hello folks, Thanks for the response to my earlier post. I have Photos!!!
See Below

Original Post:
I am the new owner of a very nice 1972 Model 66 "No Dash" .357/.38 . Picked it up today at my local gun store. It was a consignment gun from a collector that has been selling off his collection via this great store that I have frequented for years.

But there is something unusual about this Model 66, that I need some advice or information on.

This revolver comes with the following:

Target Trigger
Target Hammer
Counter Bored (Recessed) Cylinder
Pinned in two places - Barrel and lug area forward of the plunger
Stainless Front sight (No Orange)
Rear sight group (Chrome?)
Firing Pin (Chrome?)
Beautiful Smooth Target grips

It looks like a target model 66 but I cannot locate any information on any target model 66 combat masterpieces that S&W ever made.
So I have turned to the experts here on the forum.

Is there a Target Model 66 that I just cannot find any info on or could this be a special order with S&W?
Thoughts?

The 66 is a Combat MAGNUM, not a Combat Masterpiece. Great looking gun. Hope you enjoy it! Congrats on your new .357. :)

As to the SO, the only way you'll know is a letter. I'd guess it's just a standard gun with some non-OE installed target parts, but you know what a guess is worth. ;)

I believe some early Model 66s had a stainless adjustable rear sight. IIRC I have one of these 66s in my safe(somewhere). This stainless sight was discontinued early on.

I have a 66 no dash dated 1972 that looks identical. Target Hammer and trigger, stainless sights, etc.
However, my target stocks are non-diamond checkered.

Smoothest trigger of all my revolvers.

To Mark S - your revolver

Hey Mark S, Thank you for confirming there is another one of these out there. Question, Was your revolver factory original or do you think it was upgraded?
Can you post some photos? Nathan
