Well, I did the 1st Steps class today, and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't have more choice of firearms. We all had to use the .22 semi-auto (Springfield Armory) and the .22 S&W model 617 revolver. The revolver was huge in my hands! I had a real hard time getting a good grip on it, and it really pressed into the part of my hand where the thumb pivots, I hope that makes sense, so my thumb really cramped up. I did shot great with both guns, though! Even for as shaky I was. If you've seen the Shakiest Gun in the West movie, I guess I could compare myself to Don Knotts while handling the revolver!
The instructor was great, and I'm very happy he went over jammed rounds and misfires because I had both with the semi-auto!
Out of 13 shorts, would have been 15, but I had the misfire and the jam, 8 were in the orange circle and 3 were smack dab on the X! The other 2 were in the 10 ring. This at 15 feet, and me being Don Knotts! Pretty darn proud of myself!
I rented some time on Thursday at the range and I will rent a few different firearms at that time so I can get the feel of something different. I want to purchase soon, but I want to be comfortable with what I choose. I want time to pratice before I sign up for a carry course.
I thank you all again for the advice leading up to my class!
