Took my brand new M&P22 to the range today. Love it! I put 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mag through it without a malfunction. When I switched to the Federal Bulk stuff I got at Wal-Mart the problems began. I had failures to fire the first magazine, and just about every other magazine after that. I guess you get what you pay for. The Mini Mags aren't that expesive so I guess I found the ammo I'll be shooting with. Love the gun though! So glad I got it as a practice/range gun to complement my M&P9.

Sorry the Fed Bulk/WalMart ammo does not work in yours, it does in mine. I can only guess these guns are as individual as their owners. That said mine seems to be more accurate w/the MiniMags.

So far 1000 + down range and not a single problem. S&W hit a "walk-off" homer with this one. Enjoy . . .

I just shot mine for the first time last week. Had several FTE with American Eagle cheap ammo. For a plinking gun, I don't mind buying cheap plinking ammo and having to manually eject a round once in a while. Haven't tried CCI MiniMag but will when I can find a good price.

Mine shoots the CCI Minimags great and had no problems with the wally world Winchester 355 bulk but the latest batch of CCI Blazer bulk 525's I have are giving me fits. I won't be shooting the blazers in the pistol anymore but they may make it into the M&P 15-22 I also shoot. Glad you enjoyed it.

I had exactly the same problem. I believe there are two issues here. One, wimpy loads that don't have enough oomph to fully cycle the slide. I could see the weak ejection and know that there was an empty chamber on the next shot. Two, lubrication. I tried Federal bulk, copper and lead, Winchester Wildcats, Remington Thunderbolts, with the Federal being the worst. After about 2K rounds it has cleared up nicely, with a miss feed every 100 rounds or so. The biggest improvement was lubing the gun. I was using Gun Slick grease and had problems galore. Went to Rem oil and things got better. Went to synthetic 30W auto oil liberally applied to the suggested points and it really worked well. I think it just takes breaking in. Another suggested alternative fix is to have a good gunsmith make a lighter recoil spring for it, though this would be a last ditch fix. I think the 2k rounds has actually broken in the spring so it is a tad lighter. My gun now runs just about everything I put in it, but it certainly tried my patience at first. It's a great .22, the most fun one I've ever shot, so hang in there. I talked to S&W a couple times and they were willing to take it in for repair. I never got to that point. Good luck, and remember, endeavor to persevere.

PS. I just ran a couple hundred rounds of Winchester EXPERT HV through mine with no problems at all. These are at wally world for 17 bucks for 500. They are lead hollow points.

The Federal bulk stuff didn't shoot well in mine either. There were two problems I think; it seemed to be the shape of the bullet was hanging up on the small lip of the barrel insert (maybe you can see this on your gun at the top of the ramp into the barrel). I did some filing to remove this lip, and this problem went away. The second problem was feeding out of the clip; the slide would cycle and the next shell in the clip wouldn't get picked up.

Anyway, I bought CCI AR Tactical .22LR and haven't had a single issue.

LOVE shooting this gun!

I have used nothing but W.W. Federal Value Packs in my new M&P22. While not "flawless", I'll settle for 99.5%. With 500-600 rounds fired, I am satisfied with its performance to date.

Also reasonably accurate.

Has anyone shot both the M&P 22 and the S&W 22A. Is the difference in price really worth it to get the M&P? And does the 22A have a similar enough grip to the M&P 9 for practice??

I have shot the 22A and it is drastically different from the M&P22. If you are looking for a training/range gun that simulates the M&P9 I would say it is worth the money.
