So I bought this M&P 2.0 compact 3.6” and was planning to make this my primary carry. The size I thought was perfect and being my 3rd M&P I expected it to run flawlessly.
However that isn’t the case as it jammed just racking the slide. I took it apart and inspected and found no problem. Every other round was not feeding. So I thought it was the cheap federal ammo.
I went home cleanedand lubricated gun. Polished feed ramp a bit. Bought two other brands of 115 grain ammo and back at the range, same failures with Winchester white box, Fiochi 115 gr, and Remmington 115 grain. All these brands work flawlessly in my other pistols. I can’t even get through a single mag. The ONLY ammo that seems to work is the expensive +P carry stuff. That works fine so maybe recoil spring is too strong. I should be able to shoot range ammo like in my Glocks, Sigs, and other M&Ps. Very disappointing. Any advice before I ship it back to S&W would be appreciated. I have included a video.

Some new guns are "tight" and require more potent rounds to fully cycle the slide. The fact that your M&P works well with +P self-defense ammo but not with the weaker stuff suggests that you have such a gun. You don't have to shoot that expensive +P stuff to break in your gun. What you need is Winchester NATO 124g FMJ target rounds. They cost about the same as most other FMJ target rounds. They are basically +P, though they're not labelled as such. I love them. My Shield 9 is 25% more accurate when I use them compared to ordinary target rounds. So get yourself some Win NATO ammo and see what happens. If you're like me, you'll end up using them exclusively at the range.

Good Luck, and welcome to the Forum!

Sounds like good advice. I will try that before sending it back. I thought about maybe ordering another spring since I hate sending things in for warranty. I have 350 rounds through it now. How long should I expect it will take to loosen up and fire everything my other guns can fire right out of the box?

Is yours one of the newer ones or one of the older 2.0s?

There was an issue with mag followers for a while if yours has been in the store for a while. S&W was sending out the improved followers free upon request.

Just placed an order for the Winchester NATO 124 grain rounds suggested above. Thanks for all of the advice. In the last 5 years I’ve never had a single failure with an M&P. Maybe the spring is too strong on these 3.6” barrels

There has to be an answer. There's a lot of 3.6 in. compacts out there, including mine.

I have at least 1500 rounds through it and not a single malfunction.

Something funky is going on with that specimen. Sorry this is happening to you.

Maybe take it down and post some detailed shots of the relevant parts?

I'm betting this will solve your problem.
My 1st gen M&Pc did not like lighter loaded 115 grain bullets when I first bought it. Feeding it a diet of 124 or 147 gr bullets solved any and all jamming or failure to keep the slide open on the last round .

I had a bit better luck today with the 124 grain NATO ammo. Maybe it’s still breaking in after 500 rounds. Still don’t feel confident enough in it to carry it unfortunately

If the gun is not working after 500 rounds you should send it back, it has a problem. There is no guarantee S&W will fix it but the odds are pretty good they will.

Striker fired 9mm pistols are not competition 1911s. They should work right out of the box without a break in and most of them do. My 2.0 compact certainly did.

I agree with Dave. 500 rounds is enough “breaking in.” That gun should run like a sewing machine. I’d send it in and hope S&W can spot the problem. If it occurs infrequently that may be tough for them, but I’d give it a try. Check your POA/POI and accuracy before you do so if there is anything amiss there they can be informed about that, too.

If it were me, I'd try THIS first.
If that doesn't fix it, you wind up with a spare.

I have already ordered another spring from Midwest gunworks. Maybe that is the issue.
Like I said before, this is my third M&P. I haven’t been reading the threads regarding these pistols. But last I checked S&W was known for great customer service. A couple years later and I’m seeing people not so happy about their warranty work. With most saying they keep it for months and return it with no sign of improvement. I’m hoping I don’t have to send it in

from my exprience with m&ps, it's likely an overtight extractor claw when it comes to feeding issues, it's why all new m&ps seem to be shipping with looser extractor claw with much greater tolerances

Every other round is not a breakin problem.if it's not the ammo, call S&W for warranty service.

I was just told the same thing on another forum. Now hearing it a second time, I think I need to check the extractor. I will see if I can order another extractor and spring. Thanks for the advice

Clean and lube the extractor first. Then cycle the slide by hand and see if it will chamber ammo. Report back.
