I had a chance to purchase a 2" Model 34 square butt from a buddy's brother-in-law's estate. I thought it would be good for teaching new shooters how to handle a snub nose revolver in our concealed carry classes. Then I started working with my older grand son with a Ruger Bearcat. He just didn't like the balance. So I brought the Model 34 since one of my other buddies has used a 2" Model 34 to start shooting lessons with his sons. Of course my grand son loved it. So I sold off the Bearcat in hopes of finding another 2" for my students. Forum member sw702 had a beautiful nickel plated 2" Model 34 on Gunbroker. I was high bidder on it. It is truly the neatest looking gun I own. I thought my problems were solved until forum member stiab posted about seeing a 2" Model 63 for sale in North Carolina. Saturday I picked it up from my FFL buddy.

The nickel 34 will go into the safe and the 63 will be used with students. Here are the pictures:

Steve thanks for the heads up and Mike thanks for the great extra set of grips.

Congratulations, it looks like you're set for snub nose 22lr. The stainless Mod 63 should hold up much better for the cc class.
I like the grips on that nickel Mod 34.
Good finds.

I had a 2" model 63 back in the mid 90s and sold it like a knuckle-head!!! One of the ones I wish I could take back to be sure. Very nice .22 J frame collection you have there. Enjoy! Be safe.

I bought this 34-1 a few years ago. I see in my notes I figuered it was 1960 manufactor.

Great guns. I just picked up a 4" 34-1 today and would love to add a 2" 34 someday.

How much would be a fair price for a mod 34, if I could find one ?
Thank you in advance,

M.Falcon

Expect to pay between $400-500 depending on condition, original box and contents, etc. .22 revolvers are very popular now, and probably more so as trainers for larger-caliber "snubby" use. Now that ammo prices have dropped somewhat it will be interesting to see if .22 gun values drop also.

The ultimate 2" "J" frame 22 revolver

This is the best 2" "J" frame revolver. Model 651 dual cylinder in 22 LR, and 22 M.R.F.

That is an especially nice 651 with the dual cylinders.

I had the good fortune to pick up a LNIB 651 earlier this year, but it only has the 22M.R.F. cylinder, and it is one of my favorite S&W's.

Also have 34-1's with 2" & 4" barrels.

Last M34 at a gun show was A little over $500. He wasn't a dealer. just
a individual with only one gun. Love my 4 inch M34. Bought it new close
to 40 years ago. Daughter learned to shoot with it. Still looks new.
Can't shoot it as good as a heavier one.

I have purchased two excellent model 63's in the last month. An early high polished ss was $550, a later brushed was $600, I also bought a perfect nickle 34-1 at $580.00. Typical asking prices at local gun shows are $625.00 to $775.00. I haven't seen prices as low as $400 to $500. Perhaps it's a regional thing. The prices I quoted were at Indiana and Kentucky gun shows. There is a big difference between "pretty good" and excellent.

Traded for this M34-1, for the wife a cpl of months ago. We both love it. Acquired a 22-J speedloader for it from a very nice fellow S&WCA. Now in the process of makeing a loading block for it.

If the 63s have 2" barrels, then I need to be going to gun shows with you. ;)

Model 63 Prices

I should have mentioned that the 63's and the 34 ar 4" barrels. I haven't familiarized myself with the 2" barrel. I've seen it quoted that a revolver's value goes up as barrel length goes down. I'm going to a show tomorrow. maybe I can do some price comparisons, but I haven't seen very many of any length. Do you think my costs were too high, or too low?

I have one like yours coming. :) Can't wait! They are really neat little snubs. Can you owners tell me how accurate they are?

Is the inside barrel diameter the same on .22 mag and the .22 rimfire.

That 651 combo is just stunning.................

I'd say you paid at the upper end of the current range of prices, so this means they will be easily worth what you paid soon :) . The current concealed carry trend has meant shorter barreled guns have gone for higher prices, especially for (cheap to shoot) .22s.
