Hey everyone! Long time gun guy with a few S&W products, mostly revolvers. I've registered on the forum to ask for your help on behalf of my father, who does not spend a lot of time on the internet. He has a 2007 vintage S&W Model 41 that he recently sent off to refinish, and got it back without the rear sight. Per him, the refinisher has thrown his hands in the air, and S&W referred him to Midway, which listed the sights as back ordered indefinitely. While still sharp and in good health, my father isn't quite as assertive as he was in younger days. I am several states away and trying to line up some help to get him back shooting.

As far as I can tell based on what he has described, it looks like he had one of the Keng/Bomar based rear sights. From the stock photos I've seen on the Internet, they look like standard Bomars, but the dovetails look wider than the 1911 cuts I've seen. Anyone know if a BCMS-1 or 2 or other 1911 style Bomar clone will work on these guns? Or any other suggestions/part numbers/places I can look?

Thanks!

No disrespect intended, but this is not your Dad's problem. It is the re-finisher's problem.

He needs to be forced to put the firearm back into the same operable condition in which he received it.

I would have a gunsmith install a rear sight and bill the re-finisher.

Personally, with an uncooperative re-finisher, I would re-approach S&W and let them know what occurred. While they may not be willing to sell you a rear sight, I bet they would install one on his barrel assembly if you returned it to them. Obviously they will bill you for this

Lastly, if you are truly intent on getting a sight shipped to your Father so that he can install it himself, I would ask S&W which one will fit their dovetail.

I appreciate the advice and the intent. I've been in this game a long time. I know what should happen, and I know what will. My father isn't going to push it, and I'd rather get him back in service than have him sit there for months while I try to fight the battle from half a continent away.

I will be calling S&W today, but in the event that they tell me the same thing they told my father, I'd still like to source a replacement.

Thanks!

Saw those, but couldn't find any of the Keng/BoMar style of the later models. Does anyone know if the dovetail dimensions are the same across the models, such that I could use LPA or Millet style sights of older models into the newer dovetail?

Check out my recent post here:

I still have the Bo-Mar somewhere. If your dovetail looks a little different I'll send you mine. If it fits and you want to buy it, I'm sure we can work something out. It isn't doing me any good and I'd like your dad to get back in the game without too much hassle.

BTW, if the refinisher is not willing to make good on their mistake, would you tell us who it is? I would be sure to steer clear of the business.

Just was wondering if you tried checking with Brownells. They might be able to assist you in getting the sights you are looking for. Good luck.
