22/32 kit gun question

I have a 22/32 kit gun that my father bought in December of 1957 brand new ( paid $69). It was my combination birthday and Christmas present. There is no model number in the yoke and I thought all 57 and up models had that. Could this be a left over 56 model or didn't they number all the 57 models. the serial number 29709 which puts some place between 1955 and the end of 58. If anyone could narrow this down for me I would appreciate it. This is just been bugging me for years. I still have the original sales receipt, and box with the paperwork. Thanks

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! S&W issued the order to implement model numbers in 1957, but actual implementation didn't occur until 1958, or later for some guns. Although your dad bought the gun in December 1957, it was likely made much earlier, maybe even back in 1955. S&W did not ship in serial number order. So, your gun could have sat in inventory for a substantial period before it was sent to a distributor. So, I hope this alleviates your bug.
