.22 LR semi-autos

Not an expert by any means but another possibility could be a Beretta Neos. They have a love it or hate it look and feel. I have never owned or shot one but they go for under $300 or so and anything Beretta has been good to me. Worth a sniff anyway.

I have to agree with Radar 1972. I shoot NRA Target with a Ruger MK II Competition Target. I must put 100 rounds week through that thing and it's like the Ever-eady Bunny ! It just keeps going and going regardless how well I cleaned it or what ammo was used. My Buckmark runs a close second but is rather finicky about keeping it's diaper clean...
Great Guns....but this is the S&W Forum......so I'll blame it on what

Find a Ruger Mk II and buy it. (Not a III, but a Mk II)
Then buy and install the Majestic Arms Speed Strip Kit (makes dis assembly for cleaning a snap and also includes a replacement 3.5 lb trigger.)

It appears you are talking local competition and/or low/medium level competition. Not competition on a national or international level.

For what you want a Ruger Mrk. II or III, either a competition or hunter model, or 22/45 will do nicely. They come with an acceptable trigger, good adjustable sights, and for under $50 you can replace the sear and magazine safety bushing and have a really nice trigger pull. These rugers, with decent ammo, are more accurate than most people can shoot. The Mrk IIIs come with a weaver mount so you can easily put a red dot sight or scope on them. I have a Mrk II 22/45 and a Mrk III SS hunter. Both will shoot well under an inch at 25 yards with good ammo. Also there are a lot of aftermarket accessories for the Rugers.
