.22 LR Shortage Is Over - NO WAY ! !

My search is for .22 ammo that my Sig 226 .22 will handle. I always buy what I can and try it, so far Federal target match, and CCI Mini's work very well, unfortunately those are the ones I have trouble finding. The only other .22 I have is my Henry . I have so many .22's now I am getting a revolver to shoot them.

I agree, .10 is too much but the OP seems to want to pick it up instead of ordering online. My average landed cost has been under .07 and I only buy minimags now.

Set yourself up for notifications from Midway. The prices are mediocre, but if I have several thousand dollars worth of 22lr guns, its hard to grumble about 9 cents a round with a straight face.

What upsets me is the recent price increase on Grey Poupon.

The "asking price" and the "selling price" are two very different things. Look at the 100's of listings for .22LR that are not selling with stupid asking prices.

At some point you would think all of the closets of all the hoarders would get full & those that shoot a lot or a little can purchase what they need without going on quest for it & let the market dictate the price.
I recently took a new shooter to the range, recommended she start out with renting M&P 22 called ahead to ask if they had the pistol for rent & 22 ammo, was told they have a little for the range but none for retail sale.

I pay 10 cents per round for Norma Tac22 and I can buy it all day long and have always been able to buy it all day long.. In fact, on Bullets.com you can find most anything you want.

The only shortage that exists at this point is for the cheap bulk **** at retail outlets. So the shortage is over unless you're cheap . I buy online anyways because it's more convenient for me anyways. The $10 brick days are pretty much gone.

So is the shortage over? The way I buy and with the type of ammo I buy, there never was a shortage.

I'm paying $5.40 per 50 round box of Norma at Midsouth. I'm not paying shipping but the local taxes bring it up to about what you are paying for yours with shipping. They've had it in stock for quite a while now. The first day I stopped in to buy it I asked if there was a limit and the guy at the counter said "I can load a pallet it with it and bring it around to your truck if you'd like."

For Ammo as good as the Norma, it's well worth the cost (free dinner or not). Considering just how much smoother the gun feels with it, and how much the accuracy in my 15-22 is much improved, it's worth every penny to me.

It's funny U mention that because in all the WALKING DEAD episodes I have never seen any zombie get shot in the head with a .22, even though it makes sense to use a .22 because the .22 is a more quiet round, easier to carry and easy 2 shoot. Go figure.

If this is what you are looking for you'll find it out west. I was in Billings, MT for Thanksgiving and several stores had pallets of these by the cash registers. I happened to drive back through Billings after christmas and they still were plentiful. The same boxes are here in Wyoming also. I consider it a little high priced at $19.99 for a box of 325. But I gave away at least this much for Christmas presents.

If the new trend for plinking .22LR ammo is more than 7 cents per round U can count me out! I will trade my two .22LR pistols (keep my s&w 15-22) and forget about the whole thing. Life is too short.

I almost completely agree, the 15-22 I've already told the grandson was his , ' but I am looking for a good cheep 22 pistol ' for us to plink with, I have a very few rounds stuck back & or will pay the stupidly high price but just for shooting with him.

I live in Central West Coast Florida, and 22 LR ammunition is harder to find now than it was for the first seven months of 2014. At least once every two or three weeks, a few of the Walmarts in my area would get some bulk in. Haven't had any in in almost three months, and I check availability every night for 10 stores with the Walmart App, which is 95% accurate. Once in a while they get a few 50 or 100 round boxes in, but it is too expensive to drive all over for that quantity, especially with Walmarts 3 box limit. Same for the local gun shops, and what little they get in is 50 round boxes priced at 15 cents or more a round. Shortage is not over here in FL.

Bulk Box/ Brick 22lr. does not last until 7:30 AM (One day a week) at my local WAL*MART and its put out around 6:30 AM or so and it's usually gone in 15 mins. (Been like this for a few years here (Far Northern California) in Shasta County. And its Highly overpriced at Gun Shows in this region during that same period .

Our local Wally World is the same, no 22lr in a long time. When I asked the clerk about 22 shorts, he said, "What are those?" I went to our local gun shop and was able by 2 bricks, but the prices just weren't that good. I coughed up the money because I want to try out my new S&W AR15-22.

I ordered CCI Stingers over a year ago from Lohman Arms in Texas
I completely forgot about them they called me about a month ago said they came in, I figured I might as well get them knowing how hard they are to get but I paid for them 7.00 per 50 and 13.00 shipping I only use them in my Henry on the 100 yd. range cheaper rounds in everything
else I don't understand how they figure shipping charges I just ordered 2000 bullets from Extreme bullets and the shipping was just 5.00 if I remember correctly 500 9 mm's weigh about 12 lbs

I think there is confusion over this long, over discussed topic. Yes there is a shortage if you are still thinking of .05 per round being the norm and being able to walk in to your local retailer and picking up a brick for $25. There is no shortage if you are willing to concede to those days being over and the new norm being .10 per round and found mostly online. I see it regularly on a site named NORTHERN FIREARMS on GB with free shipping in desirable brands such as CCI and Federal for .08 per round but you have to be willing to spend a little and buy 5000 rounds. You could always sell a little to your buddy's if that quantity is to much of an investment. I think it is safe to say that the manufacturer won this war, and yes it is over. Just go to a site like gunbot and compare the amount of .05 per round to even last year and it is practically nonexsistant. Good Luck

Because they can. Sorry, but that's the answer. A lot of these guys skim profits off the shipping too. Nothing wrong with that as long as you understand it's just the way it is. You either buy or you don't.

They may be being sold out the back door and the people at the counter literally don't know what's going on, but rest assured; they are getting shipments. From what I can decipher, there is a LOT of this going on, believe it or not.

At least some of the Walmarts and Academys are trying to throw the hoarders off by randomly stocking the 22LR. If EVERY store would do that it sure would help. And the reason their closets aren't getting full is because many are still turning around and selling it.

I know 2 people that work a WM well enough to ask in confidence , one said no they do not get first pick the other said they do.
The last time I heard of any at WM around here was when they put it out for their hunting season kick off.
What I wonder is how long did WM have to stock pile it in order the have it every store even if just for that one Saturday ( here it was all gone by the Sunday.

The Walmarts now seem to have an abundance of 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, and Federal bulk .223, and all is the same price as it has been for the last year. But there still is very little 22LR, especially in bulk sizes. Sure I can go online and find 10 to 15 cents a round for ammo, but I am cheap.

I did get a deal around Christmas. Did an ammoseek.com search and found Federal Auto Match in 325 round boxes for $17.50 a box, with $8 shipping at Wholesale Hunter, so I ordered the limit of 4 boxes, for a total of $78, or .06 a round, including shipping costs. Not bad as there was no sales tax involved. The only issue was it took 6 week to get it delivered, but it did finally get here.

I never had any luck with ammoseek.com. I did use another link on this board and scored 3250 rounds for $0.08/round. Not a great price per round but the amount of rounds made it a good score. That plus, a bunch of Norma I had already accumulated locally, a 1000 round brick from Walmart, and a couple of other small bulk shipments from various links from this forum set me up with enough to shoot at the local range at least once a month for a year. But that was before I decided to build an AR Pistol. That stash will last even longer now if my current shooting habits continue.
