A friend is trying to trade me a 24-3 nickel plated 6.5". Is it worth any more than a blue 24-3?
Thanks,
Mike S.

I prefer the blue or stainless to the nickel. Although, I have a beautiful 57 no dash nickel that is gorgeous.

If nickle guns are 99% or better they seem to sell a little higher, in general. The problem with nickle is that it seems to show scuffs and small scratches pretty easily and sometimes it will look a little milky, which can lower the value pretty quickly.

ARE YOU SURE IT'S A 24-3? The -3 series was the 1983 reissue of the Model of 1950 44 Spl. and the revolvers were offered only in blue. If it is a 24-3 in nickel, check the extractor star, which should be blue; otherwise, it's a change of finish job and not original. The current series of Model 1950 re-issues are stamped 24-6 and are offered in blue and nickel. I suspect your friend is offering the -6 change model.
Cheers,
Sverre

I never heard of a 24-3 in nickle either. The 624 was stainless and might be thought nickle by some.

I have a 24-3 that is in deed nickel. The extractor star and hammer and trigger are not nickel. It looks factory in every way when compared to my other nickel guns. I beleive it was probably returned to the factory at some point for the nickel job. The frame and cylinder do not have an "N" stamp.

JKR
