4'', blue, box, low 90's or really high 80s (%) target grips, and I'm assuming target hammer and trigger... late 1980's $995.00

A buddy said it should be in the $800's...I like it a lot but if it is that overpriced!? I don't know.

Thanks in advanced for any thoughts

Cheers,

The 4 inchers did not come from the factory with target hammers or triggers.

Yeah, I saw an overpriced one on GB, or maybe not overpriced. NIB with all the stuff, $995.00 plus shipping. 800 does seem a bit high.....

Do you guys say $800 is over priced because you can find so many 4" M24-3s for less than that...or is it because you don't want to pay $800 for one?

Just askin',
Dave

I picked one up a while ago, Jan 2010, in the condition you describe or a little better for $750. I found out after I bought it that it had the wrong grips and the seller kicked back $50. It is a great shooter and looks pretty good (90-95%). Most of those that I see on Gun Broker are in the $900-$1000 plus range, although they're usually in better condition.

I would be patient or offer less, if that is an option.

WOW!!! I think I better get out my 6 1/2", 24-3, that's in like new condition, with box, papers, and tools, at those prices. What kind of prices are those going for?

thanks for the intel.......shoot, I really want it ....it's in TX too, where I would assume things are properly priced, unlike CA

I have a 4 and 6.5 I got new in 83? Both are shooters and always have been. I have left instructions that the 4" is to be kept until the end if anything happens to me. I wouldn't take 750 for either of them but then again might not be anyone that wanted them that bad. I am a slim barrel N frame junkie. I can't help it. If the one you are looking at is a shooter, you probably won't regret 800.

Since only 2,625 4" barreled M24-3's were made in 1983 they are quite collectable. The price you listed for a high 80's/low 90's is IMHO too high even at this low number production. NIB $995 would be in line, perhaps a bit low from what I've seen lately. But a gun used enough to have been degraded 10% should not bring that much.
I bought mine NIB 4 years ago or so, I needed it to complete my search for the 6.5, 4 and 3 inch versions in pristine condition. I paid around $900 at that time for it, I would have paid more to have it but that was a case of 'I absolutely need this and I don't care about the money'.
So my experience may not be an indication of the norm. However there are still those out there who will pay above market price for a percieved need.
In the condition listed i would happily give $700 maybe a little more if it did have all the accesories with it. Up the percetage to 95 and I'd pop $800. At this point in time I would expect a NIB 4" 24-3 to easily bring $1100, Find one cheaper, buy it and I'll be the first to congratulate you.

If you live in Carmel, California you will not be able to import the 24-3 into the state from Texas !
To me that gun in the high 80% range is not worth $800 even in California !
For $995 it should be high 90s in the box and sitting somewhere within this state ! !

I spent the arternoon shooting my 4" [24-3]. I put about 50 rds through it, and let a couple of friends try it. I used to keep it in the safe, NIB, but now I'm glad I'm the one having fun. Can't shoot them when you're gone that's for sure.

forgot to post a pic
It shoots pretty good with 231 or sr4756 with 240 grn SWC. Never had a chance to try it out on game.

Earlier this year, I sold an ANIB 4 inch 24-3 for $800. The gentleman was thrilled with the weapon and paid me before I could tell him the tools were included in an unopened package. The gentleman inspected the cylinder face and made his decision. He told me that he has about 250 Smiths. Since he has that many, I expect he knows the true value of the weapon.

A dealer offered $600 and would not go $650. He had 24-3s in lesser condition for 950-1050 on his table.

The 4 inch Model 24-3 is the least-produced barrel length among the 24-3's. 2,625 4 inch guns, while 4,875 6-1/2 inch guns and 5,000 or 6,000 3 inch round butt guns were made.

I haven't seen the total number of the 3, 4 and 6-1/2 inch stainless Model 624's made but feel, from what I see for sale, that the 4 inchers are the least common among the silver guns, too.

I would have to see the gun, perhaps in photographs, to really know both how much blue is gone, where it wore from and what other surface and/or mechanical damage or modifications it might have suffered before I could venture a guess, but $800 for a 90% blue gun with no other issues... maybe.
Grips are another big factor to impact value.

I can't argue that value is determined between a happy seller and a happy buyer on an individual basis, but while Tug was happy to sell at $800 (and I would have been very happy to have been the buyer) would his 4" gotten more? I can't help but think Yes. But when all's said and done if he was happy, and presumably made a profit, then who am I?
Over all tho' I still think a NIB 4" 24-3 will bring on the high side of $1K, the one asked about, I don't believe, should be more than$750.
Whatever works out tho' I guess is the true value of it.
