Just wondering if anyone knew more about this than me, which is not really anything. I just picked up this 25-5 at a gun show and the guy said it has factory engraving. I can't find a pic of one with it. Would it be that they sent it to S&W or maybe special ordered with it? Thanks for any insight.

I'm no expert but the quality and amount of coverage doean't look like any factory engraved S&W I have ever seen. For a while S&W was laser engraving guns and this may be one of those but I sort of doubt it. Somebody with more knowledge will be along soon.

Factory engraving is always a custom order for any model. The engraving on that 25-5 doesn't look like any engraving pattern I have ever seen from S&W. The engraving doesn't appear deep, could it possibly be laser engraving? S&W did (I don't know if still do or not) offer several patterns of laser engraving. It was considerably less expensive that hand engraving.

Welcome to the Forum, there should be a few more knowledgeable members along shortly that may be able to recognize it. The 45 Colt cartridge is a great shooting round, have fun with it.

Yes,
That looks like the Laser Engraving that was offered many years ago

The revolvers used to come with a card or flyer showing about 6-10 different patterns and a very reasonable price for the customization

You just checked off which one you wanted and shipped it all back to the Factory

Looks like laser "engraving" to me, and burned through the bluing at that. I wouldn't have paid a premium price for it even had I wanted the .45 LC.

Yeah, def seems laser. I'm not a fan. I paid $800 so even with the engraving that I don't care much for I still think I did ok. I just don't have a 45 colt except the governor. It fit an empty slot in my collection.

I do not think it is factory engraved. All factory engraved N frames I have seen have the small logo under the cylinder latch.I was told the reason for this was more area to engrave and a less cluttered design.
