I have a 28-2 with a modified trigger. I have no idea what they did to it but its about a 2 pound trigger now. I didn't measure it but just guessing.

Is there usually one or two particular parts that have been modified that i can replace to make it stock again?
Are these part/s available from S&W?

Before you do anything else, inspect the strain screw, on the front of the frame, close to the butt. First, look to see if it looks like it's been filed off or shortened. If it hasn't, make sure it's as tight as it can be. Strain screw is an easy replacement. Anything else takes a competent gunsmith and proper tools.

I've had several S&W's with 2 lbs pull that were totally stock. Measure the pull first. If your not comfortable with that light of a pull, get it changed. A new hammer/trigger are easy to install.

1) How do you know the trigger was modified?

2) Are you referring to single or double action?

3) Follow Muss Muggins' advice as a first step.

4) Then follow crsides' advice and get an accurate, measured pull weight; it might be normal.

5) An unmodified, in spec full size S&W revolver will have a double action pull approximately 12lbs; a single action pull approximately 3.5lbs.

6) To answer your question: after shortening or loosening the strain screw, the most common (of the many) modifications done to a S&W revolver to lighten trigger pull are a) change or re-tension the mainspring, and b) snip coils from or use a weaker rebound spring; both are easily and cheaply replaced with new, factory correct ones. Hammer and trigger replacement are likely unnecessary and can be easy or quite complicated depending on luck of the "drop in part" draw.

The most common changes are polishing the rebound slide, its seat and changing the mainspring. The mainspring can be changed rather easily.

Thanks guys for the info.

The trigger might even be about 1 pound its that light.
I'm comparing it to my early 1950's k22 k32 k38 and a 1957 model 29. This thing is a hair trigger in single action. Double action it feels somewhat normal, all thou very smooth and maybe a tad lighter.

I'm thinking of selling it, so I want it to be "normal".
My wife needs a nice 12ga. auto trap gun. Remington 1100, Beretta a400 etc. so Im going to make some room.
