29-3 Spring Kit

I'd like to upgrade my 29-3 with a trigger spring kit. New territory for me for sure. Just gathering thoughts on Wilson vs. Wolff, best weight, etc. I won't be doing the work myself; not my forte.
I welcome info on what you guys have found on which works the best for lightening and smoothing that pull. Thanks much.

I have used Wolff type 2 (reduced power) with 11 lbs trigger return for a long time and love that setup. That setup put the Python trigger pull to shame. Not familiar with any other kits. If you shoot DA fast in competition you may go a lbs or 2 higher on trigger return but not necessary if the action is clean and well lubed.

I have used both and have no issue with either Wolff or Wilson (I think the Wilson kit uses Wolff springs, anyway).

That said, it's pretty dang easy to buy the Wilson kit and tune the trigger weight to your preference.

Another option is the Miculek spring kit, but you need a trigger pull gauge to set it up and he does recommend Federal primers. I bought a set but haven't installed it yet, so no comment on the primer issue from me.

I have several sets of Miculek matched springs (from his company Bang!, Inc"). I have tuned them to 9.0 lbs. dbl action and 3.0 lbs. single action (my preference) and they handle all standard makes of primers.

I have been quite happy with the set up. Miculek also has a very good DVD that shows you exactly how to tune a Smith revolver.

I bought the wolf spring pack. I had light primer issues. So, I put the stock tension spring back in, and just used the 13 pound trigger spring.
Ymmv. I use wolf and Tula primers and they tend to be harder to ignite. Winchester and federal I had no primer issues.

Thanks a heap, compadres! I really appreciate all the input. I love my 29 and just want to get the best performance I can out it. The rest is up to my eyes and fingers (wink wink). I think it'll be the Type 2 for me.

Keep in mind that if you select and install a lower rated rebound spring, (sometimes referred to as the "trigger return spring") below the 16 pound rated factory rebound spring, that this will also result in a lighter SA trigger pull.

For safety, after any internal work or spring modifications, make sure to check and verify with a quality pull gauge that the SA trigger pull is still at or above the factory recommended minimum of 3 pounds.

I've experimented with springs some over the years. Changing the rebound spring is fine and works very well. However I've never found an aftermarket mainspring (hammer spring) that worked reliably. All gave me misfires. For these I stick strictly to the factory springs.

Did anyone having misfires with lighter springs try the longer firing pins?
