There are a lot of folks who will disagree with this, but there's no such thing as paying too much for a gun that nice. Rebluing is nothing more than than a face-lift, a tummy-tuck, or a boob job. If it makes you feel better, do it.
Cool... it's already been reblued so additional honest wear won't affect the value much if any. The original vintage grips are nice, but I would be tempted to play with the target grips as well. You might like how they feel with it, especially with the softened edges they display! All in all, it looks you did very well indeed.
nice gun, I have a fourth change model, got to love the 32-20, my grandfather had a Colt Police Positive in 32-20 that ended up with a cousin, and my Dad had a five Inch Colt Police Positive that I gave to my oldest son.
Sir-that is the best quote I have read in a while. We need to make a sticky of your quote so that when the ethical debate comes up on refinishing a gun someone reference it on demand.
Quick update. Took it and my new 4006 to the range today. It was a hoot. I actually shot it better at 50 feet than at 25. Need to buy some more brass and increase my 32-20 supply.
I collected Colt SAs for years and always thought the gun was too big for the cartridge. I liked the 32WCF but not in the colts even the DAs.
Then I found a 5" S&W and that was the match for that cartridge. Since finding the first one I needed to find the 6". I did and it came with one of those funky clam shell or coffin holsters. Both guns have the original grips the 6" had medallions. I put K frame magnas from a Mdl 10 on them to shoot. Smiths and 32-20s are the ticket to fun shooting.
