What the heck is this???!! Being old and blind in one eye i just never noticed an engraved # on the clyinder crane of my model 16-4 (8 3/8"). It looks to be hand engraved, not machine stamped. It reads either as "D74", or "074". Maybe one (or more) of you folks can educate me some. Thanks! oh, just for kicks and grins here's a pic of what i like to call my "Four Horsemen". Sorry for the flash.

I strongly suspect that if you look under the grips you'll find the same number somewhere on the grips frame, it's an assembly number used to keep fitted components together prior to final assembly.

It would be a "hand engraved #"? Sounds logical to me. guess i've got to go downstairs, open the safe and take a look. thanks...i'll let ya know.

I am awe of you collection!! I believe my 16-4's are marked in the same fashion. I am in Kandahar and can't get to the safe to look!!
