I just picked up a new S&W 351PD. As I was inspecting and cleaning it before taking it to the range, I discovered machining burrs on the inside edge end of the barrel where it meets the cylinder.

Happily, the brass bristles on the bore snake broke them loose and removed them.

Not very good workmanship on the part of S&W.

Well, this is the second forum today that I've seen this exact post, wonder how many more I'll run across it on?

How do you know it's not debris from test firing at the facory? I'll bet you're an expert, that's how!

Keep looking.

It doesn't take an expert to see it. Tweeking them with a point would not remove them, and running a cotton swab through the barrel snagged and tore off fibers on the burrs. It's not test fire debris, unless test fire debris is shiny metal flakes connected to the inner diameter edge of the barrel.

They were quite obviously from machining or cutting off the flat end of the barrel. It's pretty obvious.

I tend to doubt that brass bristle bore brushes would remove steel burs. Odds are what you saw in the bore was fouling left over from the factory test firing.
Doubt as you wish. It took 2-3 pulls of the bore snake bristles to remove them. Test firing fouling is not shiny metallic flakes around the inside bore edge of the barrel.

Enough. I'm done.

Op...others are simply offering an alternative/plausible explanation for what you're seeing. They might have been very minor burrs or some debris from test firing. Either way if a few passes with a bore snake resolved the issue it doesn't sound like anything major. Enjoy your new revolver and welcome to the forum.
