357 mag revolver a steady diet of full power loads

Thanks a lot for the many more recommendations. The many recommendations.

I will check the models 586 an 686 out for sure.

I will also try to check out the used market for the Ruger security six, manurhin mr73 and the other mentioned models.

Ruger, in the reloading manuals there are Ruger only loads. Love my Python but shoot the **** out of my Rugers... and never worry!

The Manurhin MR73 is probably the worst if you plan to do a lot of rapid double action shooting. The cylinder stop spring design simply can't hold up to it as well as others. It'll probably be just fine for single action shooting.

Again thanks a lot for the many recommendations. Will check out all the mentioned sixguns in the next couple of weeks and then purchase as fast as possible.

@38SPL HV Thanks again for the Revolver and the hand load recommendations. I am not a hand loader yet but I want to start learning it in 2025.

I am really curious to figure out many different loads for the good old 357 mag.

Hit the Hodgon website, you cna get a lot of load data from there.

When you go to reload, get mulitple manuals and check the data across them.

Also start each load by asking "What do I want this to do?" Do you want a hot hunting load or a light target load, an inexpensive range load or something that's really hard to double charge.

In Germany we had to take a reloading course IOT purchase powder and components, is there a class in Austria? You can teach yourself handloading, it's not hard. But, a good class with an experienced instructor gets you started much quicker.

Agent00 , I had great success with Vecton #9 for mid range loads and #6.5 for full magnum loads . Sadly , they stopped shipping to the U.S.A .
I've had both 586 and 686 , liked them both . I also like the N frame 27 and the plainer version , model 28 called " The Highway Patrolman " . I have no experience with the Ruger GP100 . I did have a Ruger Security Six , stainless 4" that I liked very well . I wonder why I sold it .
Good Luck on your search , Regards Paul

Thanks for the further sixgun recommendations. The Spohr Revolvers mentioned by Jim Watson for example look very interesting.

@cd228 in Austria reloading classes are not mandatory but they are strongly advised to take. I plan to take one.

The reason I am interested in reloading the 357 mag is to explore the full potential of the cartridge. I want to try to create light target loads and also some heavy loads that show the full possible power of the 357 mag.

Have been interested in reloading for quite some time now since I have read the book sixguns from Elmer Keith. Never had to time seriously consider that hobby due money constraints. I am in quite good position now financially so I can start the reloading journey soon.

I just picked up a Marlin 1894 carbine to join my little 686+ stable. Vihtavuori N110 was on sale so I got some to try in lieu of 2400 which is currently unavailable. N110 appears to be similar to 2400, in that it can be loaded up or down. Can't wait to try it.

The 357 Magnum is a great cartridge for the handloader. You can use powders as fast as Bullseye or Accurate Arms #2 to duplicate 38 Special target loads using 38 Special or 357 Magnum brass and any handgun powder all the way to the slowest handgun powders like Hodgdon H-110/Winchester W-296 for maximum velocity loads in 357 brass. The 357 Magnum is a highly versatile cartridge.
