357 magum reloading

I load tons of .38's and .357's on my Dillon 550, but I have dedicated die sets for each, mounted in their own separate toolheads. Also, I never roll crimp with the seating die, I use taper crimp dies in station #4.

357 crimping

I have been using the seating die to crimp. I watched it on a you tube and watched a video about it. It looked good at least the crimp did. Glad someone said somethiong about triming the case down for these bullets. I have ordered 1000 140 gr swc just for plinking and will get back to everybody when my dies and bullets come in. I was going to get some 2400 powder but was talked out of it by the salesman at Murf's. I should have gooten some anyway because I have used it for shotgun shells in the past. I have lots of different powders but mostly for rifles loads. I HAD a Ruger M-77 22-250, and the same in 220 swift wich WERE tack drivers. these are long gone due to a devorce. I really got into bench rest shooting and have about everything to do these, even a neck turning lathe. That was about 10 years ago and am now getting back into it a little. Only rifle I have left is a 223 H&R and it is a peice of ****, at least compared to the Rugers. I know where to come for help now and will return, most likely after christmas, and try this once again. Thanks for all the info and help on everything. You guys are great.

Keep the trimmed cases for the FTX bullets seperated from the rest of your brass and no other bullets require you to trim them short.

I will do that Rule3. Most of my brass went in the trash. Going to have to find some new brass, have some left I did't mess up yet. I will use them up and use something else. Anybody have a load for 38 and 357 mag using 140 gr hardened lead bullets with this titegroupe I have or recomend a good powder to keep my eyes open for.

As long as they aren't split or crumpled, You might be able to salvage that brass, just run them back thru the correct sizing die, setup for 357 Mag. If they iron out, you could use them for light to medium loads and the first time they are fired they will conform back to your chamber size.

So how do you roll-crimp?

I don't. It's a function of the seating die if adjusted to do so, and only works correctly on bullets with a cannalure grove. I choose not to roll crimp and use a separate taper crimp die instead.

certainly glad you are getting things straight....now...get several reloading books...many good ones out there...read it all....then read it again...ask all the questions you like in the reloading forum here....excellent information there...finally...use the utmost of care and pay attention!good luck!

Any salesman that is trying to talk you out of 2400 is on the suspect list for sure.

+1. You've already violated one of the basic rules of handloading/shooting handloads: if it doesn't seem right, don't shoot it.

We're over complicating this - either the brass is sized too small for the bullet, or the bullet is too large for the sized case. One or the other. I'd get on the phone w/ the die manufacturer (assuming that the bullets measure .357" as the box in the photo indicates), calipers in hand, as it is likely the die is too small.

Do some studying up on the loading process, be sure to understand not only what you're doing, but why you're doing it (the roll crimp discussion is an example). Handloading is not one of those things to "try". You're either committed to doing it right and educating yourself such, or buy factory.

Read up a little GF1. I explained what I did wrong and it was a case of having my head up where the sun don't shine. Had the wrong die in the press. Stupidity can kill, I was lucky this time. I read on another place that a small bulge in the case is OK and will form out once shot, but I think they were talking about a different problem. Anyway all is well and I move on. I have alot of old reloading books I have read several times and maybe it's time for a newer one. I think the basics are still the same but powders and bullets have changed. I will start up again when the new dies come in.

Yep that will do it;) Don't feel bad we have all done similar screw ups. I use a turret press and put the dies for a new caliber in the wrong order, took me longer to figure it out than it should have,:o. Of course I was tired, the sun was in my eyes and Mrs Rule was nagging me,:D

Somebody tried to send me a message on here but when I clicked on it it disapeared. What happened?

Up at the top, there is a box that ought to say "Welcome kd5exp."
"You last visited ..."
there is a link to "Private Messages: Unread X, Total Y."

click on that and you should see the messages that were sent to you.

Respectfully suggest that you're the one who needs to read up, but I'm happy to bail out of this one. All the best to you...

I would have loved to had a drink but because of medical reasons I had to stop all that years ago. I have read the thread from top to bottom many times, am I missing something GF1. I mean no disrespect, I am just trying to figure out what your talking about. I come here to learn and have learned alot already and don't want to misunderstand something and get it wrong. I have messed up enought already.
