I’m looking at what I think is a 38-44 Heavy Duty Model of 1950 with a 4 inch barrel. The pictures aren’t great, but it doesn’t have the single line address and it has fixed sights with a rounded, not Patridge front sight. In the picture of the right side of the frame, it looks like someone electro-penciled initials or something on the frame over the address. Hard to tell from the picture, but I’ve emailed him asking for clearer pics. Otherwise, it looks to be in good condition, so assuming it hasn’t been electro-penciled and no box or tools and mother of pearl stocks, what would be a fair price?

With original finish, without the chambers having been reamed for 357, and without any electro-pencil scribbling, I'd expect to find it priced at $800-$1000 or more where I shop; perhaps quite a bit more. The non factory MOPs are worth as much, probably more, than the correct diamond magnas would be. Should have an S serial number, if you can provide that it might help in assessing it. Good luck.

He did send some more pictures. Serial no. looks like S 89830 or 50; I can’t quite make out the 4th digit. Still hard to tell if it’s been etched, it might just be a blurred digital image. I included the first picture that I thought it had been electro-penciled and the ones that he just sent. I’ll contact him directly and ask about the chambers and if it has in fact been etched.

If it was a 44 spl. it'd be over a grand. I'm not putting anybodys down...just stating facts...and that is its a run of the mill with MOP's and Hipower hit it $800 and the absolute most and thats pressing is a grand

SN is what we would expect for the early 1950s. Wonder if the seller is intentionally providing fuzzy pictures or if that's the best he can do with the equipment he has. More light, and sharper focus is needed to better assess the finish. Do we see tiny pits on the left side near the thumb release that are blued or is that just poor images?

This feller local? Go put hands on her some people aren't the best at taking pictures...

Make a dummy 357 round or just bring a 357 case and drop it in and see if it's an in person deal.

2 weeks and I can get hands on the one I'm after...

Not too far away…he’s up in Ocala. Maybe an hour north of where I work in Tampa.

Lousy Pics!

I'm not seeing that.
However, an 89000 gun should have a satin finish. This gun appears to be Bright Blue, so I have to wonder if it is a Factory reblue. Check the grip frame.

I just had a long conversation with the gentleman. Turns out he grew up not far from me down in Southwest Miami, so we had to talk about all the cool places we remembered as kids:D

Anyway, chambers have not been reamed, no electro-pen marking(my eyes playing tricks on me), and as far as he can tell, it is original finish, with no mark on grip frame. He had wiped it down with a silicone cloth prior to photographing it.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on this one. I’d love to have some more input, particularly based on this last bit of information I’ve shared.

Darn. Spoke too soon. Just texted me…he ended up selling it at the Bushnell show this morning. Asking was $850, but I didn’t ask what he ended up selling for. No worries, I just dropped $650 on a 10mm FPC this morning and with the new forever domicile under construction, Mrs. tlawler was giving me the side eye.
