I believe I have a .38 M&P 1905, 4th Change, 5" bbl, square butt.
Serial Number 429505. If someone could look up the mfg/ship date for me, I would be very greatfull.

427463 shipped 12/22. It is not unusual for fairly close-together SNs to have shipped months apart as S&W did not ship in SN order. It's fairly certain yours was made in 1922. S&W would not have called it a Model of 1905 at that time, to them it was an M&P. They ceased using the "Model of 19xx" nomenclature prior to WWI.

Does it say Made in U.S.A. on the right side of the frame? That stamping started c. May, 1922. It would help bracket the assembly time frame; the gun still could have shipped quite a bit later for the reasons stated by others.

Thanks to everyone who replied. It is a 5" bbl. Light holster wear, and locks up tight. I shot it the other day and it was a great experience. One of my favorite guns, and coming from the Probibition era, if it could only talk!
