38 special148 gr. lead wadcutters

I have toyed with the idea of loading a Hollow Based Wadcutter backwards in the case. Would make a heck of a hollow point, maybe. Step up the velocity and see how it would do.......Anybody tried it?
From a 2" J-Frame S&W revolver , 38 Special , Speer swaged 148 gr. HBWC reversed to make a large HP , 3.5 grs. Bullseye @ 801 fps gave the largest expansion of .715" ( expanding to nearly 3/4 inch diameter ) in a nice mushroom , gave the best results . Less velocity gave less bullet expansion and more velocity just reduced the mushroom back to 38 cal. of the now solid base .
Try some loads above and some below 3.5 grs. and see how your's perform .

I cast dewc with an MP mold. Size and use homemade lube (beeswax, lanolin, petroleum jelly, and a crayon) through a Star sizer. Crimp on the crimp groove. Charge it with whatever powder performs well. And if I dont power stroke my Rossi 92, it will feed them just fine, in addition to putting them through a 64 and 66. I love shooting those little flying soup cans.

My first post, but I've been lurking here for years! This place is the S&W authority.

I cast button nose wc's out of an old Lee double cavity mold that drops them at .358". I do not size them for obvious reasons, and I tumble lube them with a 50-50 mix of Lee Liquid Alox and mineral spirits. With 2.7 grains of Bullseye, they are very accurate loads. BTW the NRA Handloading Guide has an article on target wc loads. And though it is to me counter-intuitive, they stated that cast wc's were more accurate than swaged. Further that 2.7 grains of Bullseye was their preferred charge.

Looks kind of familiar: mine out of my double cavity Lee mold.
