Does anybody know approximately when s/n A4427XX was built? Also, I've read that the hammer is supposed to have a drilled hole, but this one does not.

Bump. Nobody knows nothin' about the 39? That's highly irregular.

I have a nickel 39-2 in the same serial number range, which was built in 1976. As far as the hammer with the hole in it, by serial number A180,000 they were eliminated as part of a cost reduction in the manufacturing process (one less step to do). Hope that helps.

Hole in hammer?

I had a Colt 25 Junior with a hole in the hammer. I assumed that it was for attachment of a lanyard, so that's how I carried it. I used a whistle lanyard and and carried it that way jogging and driving. It could be reached with either hand and a straight arm extension would cock the hammer.
