Is there anyway to decrease the amount of trigger "take up" if that is the correct term? In single action there is a lot of free play or just nothing before it actually engages and fires. I have tried similar guns and maybe this is just the way they are made? Does the trigger have a spring that should add some tension to it before it fires.
Not sure if I am describing this correctly. The gun functions fine, just feels weird. Maybe just used to striker fire guns and double actions.

Like many DA autos, the 3913 has a lot of take up, and there's not a lot that can be done.

A good S&W-savvy pistolsmith might be able to reduce the take up, but prices are going to be high for that type of custom action re-building.

There is that spring metal "Springy Thing" on top of the trigger on 3rd gen pistols that I've seen loose tention or break, Can't remember the correct term for it, But can be seen from the top with the slide removed, It has two little ears that contact the trigger bar & help make the slack or play seem less noticeable, I've heard that this part can be replaced, It's riveted to the trigger itself, I've also seen a smith bend the two tangs a bit to remedy a bit of sloppyness in the trigger..Also a bit of lube on it were it contacts & trigger return spring might be helpfull..
This will not change the initial takeup or point of trigger break..
There used to be some great pics of this but the search engine comes up dry..
Good Luck & Enjoy that 3913 OCD1

Thanks, I remember seeing another gun at the shop that had that "springing thing":) missing and or broken. The trigger just kind of flopped around, still worked but obviously had something wrong. Mine is not that bad. I think it is just "the way it is"

I am not trained on the 3913 internals, but I know that many modern DA/SA service pistols like the Beretta 92, SIG 226, springfield XD etc require some trigger takeup before the sear releases the hammer because they have an internal firing pin blocking safety mechanism and that pretravel is where the trigger is lifting that safety out of the way so it can fire. You just have to live with it.
