I own a 3913 with less than 100 rounds fired through it. I am seriously considering trading for an M&P 40. I have an offer of $350 trade in value towards a M&P 40 (new in box) that they will sell to me for $469. I am applying to our local Sheriff's Dept. as a reserve officer. Although I know the subject of 9mm vs 40 cal is a ball buster, I'm trying to decide caliber and trade. I only have one box of 9mm ammo so not a great loss there. Also it's very hard to find any accessories for the 3913 (no rail).
Much thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I think you would be better off if you sold your 3913 outright if you really feel the need to get a M&P and can't afford to keep it. As for the 9/40 I would go with whatever the Sheriff issues.

There is nothing wrong with the M&P 40 but, there are many members on this forum who have regretted selling their 3913. It is one fine handgun, a classic that has no equal for it's size, reliability and accuracy.

Yeah, I am one of them...I had a 3913 TSW, and on a whim (or more accurately, moment of insanity) I traded it. I regretted it and went back a day later and it had already sold. I trade a lot, and there are some I really regret letting go, and that was one of them!

If you can, keep the 3913 for your off duty carry, and get the M&P 40 (if that's what you want) for your duty gun.

Keep it

I have more than one 39XX and also an M&P 40. The M&P is the only poly I own.

The M&P would be excellent for your duty gun.

The 3913 would be good as a duty gun (depending on assignment) or as an off duty weapon. As far as the rail, many believe it's unneeded on a rather compact, slim gun designed for more discreet carry.

You may also want to think ahead regarding duty and backup guns sharing the same leather & mags. Makes things easier.

If it were me (and it's not so this means nothing) I would keep the 3913 and save for the M&P.

I'll throw my vote in for keeping the 3913 and saving up for the M&P, if you let the 9mm go you may well regret it.

Keep the 3913 and add to your herd. I am one of the many that think the 3913 is the ultimate CC gun of all time.

Keep the 3913. I know, I know... dogpiling. Look at it this way: The 3913 is no longer in production. Good examples are hard to find. S&W M&P 40s are being given away and as long as Glock continues to dominate the LE Police market, the M&P will be available.

I'm Keeping the 3913

After carefull consideration and keeping an open mind to listen to what you have all said, I have decided to keep the 3913 and save up for the M&P. I thank you all for taking the time to give me your advice. I'm very glad I found this forum and will contribute when I can make a difference.
Best wishes to all.
