Help! Friend of mine has a 3913TSW for sale. I guess it's what they call the second generation; it has the equipment rail. This gun is virtually new in the box with all papers and both mags and such. Any idea on worth? Any downsides to the rail on what is so obviously a great CCW gun? I've had a 3953 and regret selling it, so I may buy this one if the price is right, but I think his $600.00 is a bit on the high side. Any and all opinions about this model and pricing would be appreciated.

I paid $650 for a NIB 3913TSW from a dealer about four months ago. I agree with many here and don't like the rail, but it wasn't a deal breaker and can be removed.
Ask your friend if you and he can go to a range and shoot a box of rounds and see if it's the pistol for you. If it is right for you, I don't think the price is unreasonable for this pistol in excellent shape with the box and papers included.
You could search the auction sites and perhaps find a better deal, but won't have the chance to hold it in your hand and maybe even shoot it before buying. The 3913 is great pistol and would serve you well.

I'll agree that finding one like you have NIB with all the paperwork is getting rare these days. In my opinion though, that price is a little steep.
Make your friend a respectable offer and see what he says.
I have one without the rail and it's a great little carry gun.
It Shoots everything I feed it flawlessly !

Hoffmans Guns in Newington, CT has a 3914TSW on auction for $400 with box and one mag. Auction ends tomorrow.

I think that is high. You can find NIB for $600ish if you look around. Check out sites like Gun Broker and you can get a sense of what they go for based on condition.

I know this post is old, but I don't think $600 is bad for one of these like new with the box. Bud's Gun Shop usually has some great deals, and you can find a 4 year old listing of this pistol new for $641. Guns America just sold a new one for $800. These hardly ever even pop up on Gunbroker, and when they do they are normally fairly used and go for $500-$600. I love mine, and I would really like to add a nice Chief's Special to my S&W collection along with the Recon and Shorty.
