3rd Gen Withdrawal Syndrome?

It's not listed on the forum. Where in MA are you located? I'm about 15/20 min from Springfield.
I'm in Eastern MA, but I visit Western MA quite often. PM inbound! :)

What's worse is when you collect both revolvers AND 3rd Gen's!
I suppose it's a really good thing that the IL turns me off on S&W's newer revolvers... and there is no way that I can afford any more really nice pre-lock revolvers. :(

I think if I was collecting in your restrictive environment, I'd set aside the money for the 4506, then keep buying the other guns that you are interested in.

Then the 4506 will pop up when you least expect it and you will be in a position to buy it while still picking up the others that you want.
That would be nice :) except that my financial world doesn't quite work that way in the Age of Obama. :o There is no such thing as putting spare money aside for some future purchase since there is no spare money to begin with. :(

Truth is that I have no business being in this expensive hobby at all anymore, but addictions are addictions. :p Man does not live by bread alone. ;)

Without getting into the dirty details, there is only enough room in my entire winter/spring budget for two more 3rd Gens: 1) a 4506-1 (or similar full-size .45 3rd Gen), and 2) a 2206 or 622. The latter is practically a done deal at this point. Just waiting for an appropriate time when I can go pick it up. :)

Buying any other 3rd Gen would mean abandoning any possibility of purchasing a 4506-1 for at least 5 or 6 months minimum. :(

You are in a tough spot indeed. Best to keep the eyes on the real want then. I hope a nice 4506 comes around for you soon!

Here's to well wishes and prosperity in the New Year as well. :)

My wife is from the Cape area of MA and desperately misses the place. I'm originally from Tucson, AZ and love to visit but no way am I moving there.

Tell me about it. I've bought to K frame 3" guns since the end of September. I also saw a Model 10-5 5" listed. I'm not sure I'm interested, but I'm definitely NOT not interested.

Yeah, I only had my trusty 4" Model 19 when I found my first model Model 65 3" in a CO Springs pawn shop.

Diddnt even know Smith made 3 or 5" revolvers. Thought they only made 2,4,6,and 83/8". Started researching it on the Internet found this thread:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...3-picture-thread-more-three-inch-madness.html

Which started my horrible S&W 3" revolver addiction. Then was offered a very nice 3913 at an almost giveaway price by my favorite Denver area pawnbroker and started hanging out in this section as well. Got addicted to the compact 9mm's and quickly purchased a 6906, 457, 6946, and 3953.

This forum is gonna run me into the poorhouse, but I'm gonna love every minute of it! :D

Thanks for the good wishes. :) It's been a tough end of year 2014. Lost a good friend and my own health is getting awfully complicated as I get deeper into my "golden" years. Sometimes, the only thing that keeps me going is the distraction of this silly, expensive hobby. The 4506-1 will remain at the very top of my short Want List for the foreseeable future... even if it does mean passing up other nice 3rd Gens and watching them go to other buyers. I'm prepared to tolerate a little bit more "3GWS" for the sake of my beloved someday 4506-1. ;)

The Cape is an endless traffic jam these days. Haven't been down there in years, but I can still understand your wife missing it. But you are still better off anywhere but Massachusetts. This place really is a nuthouse full of crazy & dishonest politicians. :(

Can't blame the forum for everything! :p Must take a little blame of your own. :D The forum may be fueling our addictions, but we ourselves are the ones lighting the fires. :)

We still get back there pretty often, amazing how much has changed since we were married in 1992.

And you are right. The forum is great! My addiction is mine alone. I'm sure I can stop whenever I want. (Oooooh a 4586 and a 2" Model 63!) :D

There is a 4586 for sale at a shop near me. I've contemplated buying it instead of the 4506-1, but I can't quite bring myself to do it. I know that I'd still want the 4506-1. :o

The 4586 for sale has no box and just one magazine. It also has rubber Hogues instead of the stock S&W wrap-arounds. It has one noticeable scratch near the trigger (fixable) but no other significant cosmetic flaws. Dealer says he will take $500+Tax for it. Damn tempting, but my beloved 4506-1 is still number one in my book. :D

What about a move to NH? You couldn't get much more "free" than that. The question is, for how long?

Two years ago I would had invited you to Connecticut. Despite our prior Assault weapons ban, was pretty much wide open for what you could buy, and where it could come from. At worst, the old post-94 rifle feature ban was an annoyance. But in the post-sandy hook world, it's just a damn mess down here with the new laws and restrictions. At least we can still bring in 3rd gens or whatever other handguns we want as long as the new mag capacity isn't exceeded. This actually makes the 3rd gen very competitive and attractive here due to the fact that they were mostly produced during the federal Ban years, and 10 round ban compliant mags are fairly common for them, or they never were a "hi capacity" gun in the first place like the 39xx, 45's and 10xx.

At least you managed to get a new R Governor, so maybe some common sense will prevail, but Thats a long shot in that state considering the AG and the fiefdoms.

If I ever get a great job offer from a MA company where I would need to move, I'll bring in as many glocks and third gens as I can afford to buy ahead of time.

If I got a job offer in MA, I'd keep looking for a better one in the good old Southeast.

NC keeps trying to turn blue, mainly because of NE and California transplants. And the crazy new socialist governor of my favorite state VA is vowing more and more strict gun laws.

But fortunately I live in OH today where under Kasich and our representatives it's only gotten better. More new changes (better) to our CCW laws are expected to be signed any day, and we will also be allowed to hunt with Surpressors.

And then in June we plan to move to GA. And I'll be able to hunt deer in my home state again with modern center-fire rifles.

Hard to believe the laws in Mass, CT and MD. (The latter once considered by some to be a "Southern state". :)

The problem with NH is its insanely high property taxes. :( Fine for young, growing families where no sales tax and no income tax can offset the staggering property taxes, but not the place to move to for retired old folks like us. :o

We really like parts of Northern CT, but we could never afford to live there in a million years. And the craziness about "assault" weapons and magazine limits would mean liquidating more than half of my collection. Not going to happen!

Sadly, our new gov is a RINO who took Bloomberg money to get elected. I don't expect him to do much for our side. :(

There ya go! :) You've got the right idea! :D

Be glad... very glad... that you live in a free state. But almost any state could turn into a NY, MA, CA or CT practically overnight. Just takes the right "incident" ("never let a good crisis go to waste") and the massive influence of wealthy gun-grabber money. Look at WA for instance. :( Never take it for granted. Diligence forever!!!

Back on topic...

My "3GWS" was unusually bad this morning so I got in the car and made a 3rd Gen shopping run. :) Hit all the usual suspects but not a single 4506-1 in sight anywhere. :( Still, the various shops let me fondle and drool all over the following:

  • Found one very nice 4516-1, but I already have one. ;) If I win the lottery this week, looks like I might have two. ;)
  • Found a nifty 4006 in really great shape, but the consignment price was $500 and that would have totally blown my quest for the 4506-1. :( Dang!!!
  • Found a sharp looking 908 that I could see myself owning if it weren't for my current "monetary challenges"! :D
  • Revisited a 910 that I had seen before. A very clean gun at a very reasonable price. Too bad that it wasn't a 910S (one of my very favorite 3rd Gens of all). :p
  • Lastly, I found a 6904. It was a little pricy I thought and I already have a 6906. Under current circumstances, I can live without it. :o
One sad note: A consignment gun (SW99 .45) that I've had my eye on practically forever was finally taken back by its owner. It was way over-priced but the owner apparently decided that he'd rather have the gun than sell it at a reasonable price. :o My loss... and his loss too. :o Too bad they won't tell me the owner's name, 'cause without the consignment fee in the picture we might have been able to work out a deal.

So that was my day. :) I came home empty handed but I got to do a lot of fondling and drooling. :D My "3GWS" is under control, at least for a few more days. :p

If you move to MA from out of state can you bring in guns that are otherwise not allowed?

Absolute Truth! The Dems here rammed thru some gun control dispite thousands of people protesting at the statehouse and more driving around honking horns. Then we tossed three State Senators and the Governor almost lost his job in the last election. They would have gone much farther if they could. Look at VA right now.

Yes, but you do have to register them.
Gary gave you the short & sweet answer. I'll give you a slightly longer one. :) We have a lot of laws, many of which don't make a whole lot of sense.

One big restriction is the assault weapons ban (a straight continuation of the expired Federal AWB), which includes a restriction on magazines to no more than 10 rounds unless they are pre-ban. Pre-ban AWs are allowed but newer "post-ban" models must be neutered to meet the AW ban's requirements.

Note that the "lists" (the published one and the double top secret one) control what handguns a dealer can sell or transfer in MA and not what a license holder can own. You can bring in whatever handguns you want as long as you obtain a license to carry and don't bring in any post-ban magazines greater than 10 rounds.

If you move into MA and bring the guns with you at the time you move, you don't have to register them. If you bring them in after you move, you do have to register them.

There are a few odd complications regarding moving into MA such as the long time it takes to apply for and get a license to carry and what happens (or should happen) to your guns in the meantime, especially if you don't wish to register them. Not a big deal problem usually but there are some risks, so you do need to understand how to avoid any trouble.

Look at VA right now.
No kidding. :o I'm afraid that VA is slowly becoming part of "Greater Washington DC" as time goes on and the Federal government becomes increasingly bloated and out of control. To tell the truth, I wasn't surprised at all given the nutty governor they elected. :(
