What makes this so valuable? One recently sold for this amount. Says factory finger groove grips. I don't understand. No box or paperwork. Just wondering.
In general, 629s have been pretty solid on price lately. Might have been a little auction frenzy but in my limited experience its tough to find a pristine 629. Seems like you see minty 29's more often than 629's but maybe just my observation?
I would have ran out of desire someplace south of $1200.
Looks like a three way bidding war, and a buyer that doesn't mind paying top dollar to get exactly what he wants. Apparently, he's not interested in box, probably not a serious collector, so I wouldn't be surprised that he bought it to shoot the snot out of it and just wanted to start out with a really nice one.
I guess I should list my 4" 629-1 if that's what they are bringing. I was watching that auction to get an idea. We're those grips available back in 1984?
