I purchased a collection of NIB Smiths today, all 3" barreled guns except for this one. I don't normally collect 4" guns but I had to buy it with the collection. The gun is a NIB 4" Nickel 25-5. I came in a large cardboard box containing the gun (which is in a blue smaller box with the cleaning kit and factory paperwork), and a wood presentation case which is still in the clear plastic wrapper.

Can someone let me know what the going rate is for this model in NIB condition? I am probably going to sell it because it doesn't fit in my collection as most of you probably know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have the identical set-up.
At a gunshow I would mark it a $800-850.00
doubt it would move.
But I think at $750 it would.
BTW..your fixin to get emails..

I would say a $1000, maybe a little more since it is new, It sure is a bonus to find them new like that, I would sell it too, it wouldn't go good with my used guns

I'd go $1000.00 for a NIB with the shipper and all the 'goodies'. I have never seen a nickel 4" 25-5 in the flesh.

Considering the condition, pretty much whatever you ask isn't out of line. I've seen a 95% 4" nickel 25-5 sell for $750, and the buyer (not me) was happy to get it.

I'd hazard a guess, in a good auction, $1200 or more. But, I could be wrong.

(Edit to add) If the s/n puts it before 1977, the value is even higher.

I paid a lot less for this one, but it's not NIB.

FWIW, according to S&W, no 25-5's were made prior to 1978. In 1977, the 25-3 125 year anniversary model, with the shorter ACP length cylinder, only came in blue. So if it's pinned , it was made sometime between '78 and '82, and if not it was made since then.

SCSW3rd Edition
Few were produced in .45 Colt until 1977 with the 125th Commemorative.
.45 Colt caliber will bring significant premium in early production guns

I saw a 25-2 in Colt that was sold as a 25-5 because of the caliber. Bad juju, it wasn't to me.

But, you're right. I'm guessing Todd knows what he has.
