The 29-3 value thread surprised me and brings up a question.
I have a 4 screw non model marked 44 magnum with a 6 1/2" barrel. It's wearing cokes refurbished by a forum member. There's a date code on the left side of the grip frame from the early 80s. My guess is that was for a refinish, but who knows?
There's a tiny spot of muzzle wear and some hairline scratching on the cylinder that doesnt show in my pix.
What's this thing worth?

Hard to tell from the photo but the dishing around the screw hole says refinish but the side plate seam still looks pretty good. Much of the value in these pre Model 29s is in the completeness of the package. I see it is still sporting some nice "coke" stocks but do you have the box, tools etc?

You could probably still get $2K for that one, looks very good. Depends on how you'd sell it, on-line auction or 4 sale advertising and the market in your area.

A factory refinish isn't as scorned as non-factory. It has the date, not a date code, it is the date. Look on back of cyl and in barrel shroud and left side grip frame on the heel for diamond stamps.

Agreed...$2K easily for that one, probably considerably more. I picked up my 1958 4-screw .44 Magnum a few years ago for $1600. It came in the wrong presentation case, but the case alone was worth $150+ so I did OK on the revolver. The Coke Bottle stocks alone are going sky high!

I dug it out,but no diamonds. The date is 10 82

My pre-29 4-screw....

1998, I hit a gun show in Colorado Springs, and saw a nice 4" 4-screw, coke bottles, etc. pre-29. Traded a Sig P228 with some magazines I brought back with me from Germany. Found out the barrel had been replaced and poorly installed; the owner made good on that. I sent it to Smith who cleaned up the barrel install. Later, on this forum,. I found someone who had 6.5" period factory barrels for $150. Back to Smith for a proper barrel install. She is a laser beam shooter, with a near perfect finish; and as I have mastered casting and reloading Keith's (both in Skelton and full St. Elmer loads) I am hoping sometime to try my hand at deer or elk.

Arjay, you have a beautiful pre-29 and the responses here are kinda surprising to me, but I like what I am seeing.:)

I have an original finish 99% 1958 4 screw Pre-29 with Cokes, the presentation case, cleaning rod, MOP, brush, and SAT. I also have the letter for it. What might it be worth in today's market? Here are some pictures. The first picture shows it with a pair of Keith Brown grips, but I am wondering the worth with the original Cokes. The first picture also looks like it has bluing loss near the muzzle. It doesn't. It only has a very slight turn line that doesn't even go through the bluing. Thanks.
