I know I know. The m&p is a lot nicer and easier to use without a safety switch, but I am curious where I can find one. I am a newbie, but I have looked around this forum for the answer, but I couldn't find it. Is there an online store I can buy it from, and is it easy to install? I am debating if I should install one so nothing is written in stone. My M&P has the square "push out", so I'm pretty sure I can install one.

Can you define more what you are calling the safety switch?

There is the gun safety. Some guns come with a safety some come without.

There is the magazine safety. Keeps the pistol from firing if the magazine is removed. Some have this, some don't. If your has it, and you want to disable it, you can find how to do this.

Ok, sorry. I am talking about the thumb safety on the side towards the back of the pistol.

Really? I thought I saw the same pistol with the thumb safety. In fact, someone was saying the if the pistol has like a circular look where the safety would go, then you would not be able to put one on. If it has the square like "punch out" then you could. I'm confused.

OP: If you truly want a manual safety I would suggest talking to a competent gunsmith, due to your self described "newbie" status. Are you intimately familiar with the inner workings of the M&P,? relationship of one safety or lack of to the built in safeties? Only because your M&P should not fire with out trigger pressure, ( it is safe), at this time, if you try to place a manual safety will you? Can you? cause it to be Unsafe? I do not know!! You would not switch chips in you car that disabled the brakes while increasing accelerator response without understanding how they worked together. Be Safe,

Might be cheaper to buy an M&P with a safety and sell yours. They come with and without a manual thumb safety. They also come with and without a magazine safety.

I believe I can list a link to "closed" auction. link

Had you used the "search" function, you would have learned that the subject has been brought up before and the answer has not changed. That answer is that S&W will not retrofit it and they will not sell the safety itself as a separate part. You would need to replace the entire sear block and have the safety (which you can't buy) fitted.

As to a do-it-yourself, as a self admitted newbie, you're really and truly going to risk your life on your ability to install an item the factory states is not retro-fittable?

Are you worried the M&P is going to randomly drop the firing pin on a round in the chamber?

It's not.
