I have a Model 4013 with full hammer. I bought it new back in 01 or 02. Have not shot it in forever. Want do you think its worth? Its in new condition.Thanks

With today's crazy market I'd say it is probably around $400-$550 depending on condition and what you have to go along with it. Just a guess though.

I was offered $300 by a local gun store to trade it for a Glock 27. I have eight magazines for it. The store usually marks up used handguns about $100.

Keep your S&W 4013..... it has a life time warranty and is a 3rd Generation gun which is about as flawless as you can get. They are reliable, feed everything, eject everything, are accurate and are quite easy to carry. I use a 3913 heavily and it is my most trusted of the herd. You will not regret it!

I think for a local face to face sale where there are no additional fees you could get $425 for the gun but you have to wait for the right buyer. I just paid that much for a 3913 in about the same condition as your 4013. Those of us who know S&W's know how good the guns are, but the general shooting public is not as aware so the guns will not sell as fast as Glocks or the more recent polymer guns.

I have a 908S, 4013, and 4566. They are all great guns and operate flawlessly. My 908 has over 2000 rounds through it and never a hiccup. All 3rd generation so all field strip the same. I almost traded the 4013 for a G27 but then decided against it. Glad I did not trade.

I have two 4013's; one with a full spur hammer & one with a bobbed hammer. The full spur hammer has the factory decock feature that is activated with the slide mounted safety lever. Once decocked, the safety lever springs back to the off-safe position. The bobbed hammer version is the traditional S&W 3rd generation TDA system.

How is your 4013 set up? Decocker or traditional?

While the slides of these pistols are beefier than those on the 3913, and therefore slightly less comfortable for concealed carry, they are also extremely well made pistols. A couple of my buddies have gotten into the small Officer sized 45's. Personally, I like the 4013 much better than these. Its lighter, has more capacity, and I like the ability to carry hammer down on a loaded chamber with no safety manipulation required to get off my first shot.

I agree with the $400-$500 range, depending on condition. I also agree that you may not sell it as fast as say a Glock 23 or an XD. There are lots of shooters that are unfamiliar with this model - consequently you will be looking for a buyer that knows something about S&W pistols.

Mine is the traditional with the bobbed hammer. I feel the 3rd generation are highly underrated and most are unaware of their reliability. I'm fortunate to have the three that I do, the 908S, 4013, and 4566.

I had one with the bobbed hammer. It was the first of it's type with the single stack magazine. I never had any problems with it. I wished I still had it. I let a friend (some friend) talk me into selling it for a tupperware gun. Let's say I still regret it. Don't get rid of it, you will too.

This one I bought originally back in 1995 and then gave it to my brother as a Christmas gift a year or so later. He never shot it much so he was willing to let me buy it back last year; he needed some extra cash for his S&W revolver collection. I wanted it to go with a lovely 4014 I had picked up to add a little Salt & Pepper to my S&W auto collection.

I own a 3914 that have carried since new. I concur.......extremely reliable, accurate, easy to pack, and reasonably inexpensive. I purchased/ordered a 4040 new when they first came out preferring the 40 cal over the 9mm. Ordered several factory 4040 mags, two each with and without finger guard. I don't know the specific differences in the 4040 and the 4013 and would be interested in finding out. Frame size? Barrel length? Can you owners explain the differences. I have never fired the 4040 after arrival in that it did not have ambidextrous safety I expected it to have (I'm a lefty) and was so new at the time I never handled one in person. Hence, the 3914 continues as my carry gun.

The biggest difference between the 4040 and 4013 is the frame material. The 4040 was the first Scandium framed Semi-Auto in a 40 cal, and maybe the first scandium semi-auto (I could be wrong on that). The other big difference is that the later 4013s were double stack and early ones were single stack. The 4040 is single stack only. My 4040PD is one of my favorite pistols (that and my 1066). Also, note that none of the 4013 magazines will work in the 4040.

Good decision Marshall 357. I wish that I could afford to add a 3913 to the group of 3rd generations that I have. However, the economy in general and my son's college tuition are not leaving much more than crumbs for my gun money at the present time.

I dont know if any of you saw my postings in the 4003 thread, but I was looking at a 4003 at a gun show a couple months ago.

This weekend is/was the most recent show for me to get back to them.

There I was looking at the 4003 deciding which one looked better when the guy behind the counter asked if I would be interested in the 4013TSW. Well after doing research on the 4003 and learning about the different models, I knew the 4013 was a tad bit smaller then the 4003 and that like the 4003 it was also an alloy frame with stainless slide. So I answered with a HELL yeah!!! I'm interested.

He said that I would have wait 15/20 minutes because he was taking one in on trade and needed to look it over. I said no problem.

I eye balled the rest of his inventory and even chatted with my permit instructor on the next table. I walked back to that vendor, as he looked up and said, here ya go, and handed me that famous blue case.

Its beautiful!! Needs a thorough cleaning tho. As you can see, it doesn't have the light rail, but it came with 3 mags!! and the original paperwork including an unused registration card.

So, now I just need to buy a cleaning kit, some ammo and take it to the range to see how she shoots.

Ohh and the price was $385 like the 4003's were.

Whatcha think?? Was it a good deal or should have I stayed with the 4003?

I havent put any rounds thru mine as of yet. But I did have a gun smith look it over. He said its good to go. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have put some rounds thru it.

I do have a question about it, and really I shouldnt need to ask, but I will anyway.

While talking with someone at work about it, I said that it has a decocking lever that also functions as a safe. He said DO NOT trust the decocking lever... that they have been known to discharge the round in the pipe. BUT this goes against the design of the lever... Afterall, it was made to decock the hammer...

Is he full of bull or what???

Has anyone ever had the decocking lever malfunction??

You paid $450? WOW I got a great deal then!! Lets see the LEO markings. Are they more then just the name like the Atlanta's are?

If I would have been 10 minutes later getting to the vendors booth, I could have missed out on it.

$385 is a great deal. I bought one LNIB for $495 a couple of months ago. I thought it was a fair price. Once I laid eyes on it, the fever kicked in, and well, the rest is history!

I would not "trust" a decocking lever, although I've never had one fail. I always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction (at a ground-level floor, bucket of sand, something like that) when decocking ANY double action pistol.

I've never actually heard of any decocker malfunction, but any mechanical device can fail. If you don't trust it, it can't fail you catastrophically.

I personally havent heard of any horror stories. The guy just said they dont always work and that when they fail, they discharge the chambered round. I did ask the guy at the gun shop about it. He has never heard anything. and said that IF they did fail, it would be a total recall of the guns... as this would be a major design flaw.

I bought a cleaning kit. She cleaned up really easy thanks to the stainless and alloy construction. Also oiled it up too. DAMN a drop or two goes a LONG way!!!!

None the less, I got to the range today, Here are the results.

The first pic is 15 feet, left hand center mass. disregard the stray hole in the bottom right, that is part of another grouping (9 shots)

Second is 20 feet left hand, at the head. (9 shots)

Third, 15 feet right hand Neck (9 shots)

Fourth, 15 feet, right hand off the target (6 shots)

Fifth, 15 feet Left hand rapid. (9 shots)

Sixth, entire target.

Hey guys I have a question for ya.

When I field striped my 4013tsw I noticed two springs, one inside the other, on the recoil spring guide. Why? is it suppose to have only one spring or two, if one which one??

As of now, that is the way it came, so thats how I reassembled it after cleaning.
