I've got a new-to-me 4053TSW and I'd like to know when it was made - here's the number:
MSE8XXX
If someone can look that up great. If not can you please point me to where I can find the info?

The frame is a bit banged up from the holster but it runs nicely. It's a double stack, no rail model. Think S&W would clean it up for me?

I've got a few 11rd mags for it and looking for a list of what fits - I know the 4013 mags fit but I need the shoe/ on the mag to get a proper grip. I don't like my pinky finger slipping off the grip.

I've read a little on the forum here about yellow vs blue followers but can't remember which is better. IIRC it was the blue, something about the lip design - is this correct?

Anything else WRT mags I should look for when purchasing new units? I'm in MA and from what I'm reading the LEO mags are off the list for me. Are there any other identifiers I should look for to help insure I'm getting a pre-1994 mag? Yeah, I know, a free state residence...

And of course, leather - Any recommendations for an IWB holster? I'm eyeing a Fist model 14 or 20 - this would be for CCW/IDPA.

Thanks All

I believe they were only catalogued one year, 1998. It would not surprise me if there were one or two LE contract runs about the same time period.

S&W can re-anodize the frame. It is on their website.

I just got a NIB 4053 (not the tactical) I got extra mags from Midway, but CDNN has them also. I called S&W cust serv. gave them the ser. no and they told me it was made in 1993.

The TSW series is on the 6900 frame size and uses the double stack mag, earlier models use the 45 frame and single stack ones. All the 9rd TSW mags have the finger ext. The 11rd full size mags require a +2 adaptor to fill the grip out. The book shows them as starting in 2000, you'll probably need to call S&W with the serial number to get the exact ship date.

I too just aquired a 4053 TSW without the rail, it has night-sights and I got about 11 mags with it, 2 with the finger rest and the other 9 are the 4006 mags with the finger/grip boots. I like it well enough although I think I liked my 6906 and 6946 better. I do however like the TSW series WITHOUT the rail. I like the added frame features of the TSW series but not the light rail that only fit one tactical light. I think the 69/60 series make great CCW guns and I like the grip angle much better than my Glock. I used too carry a 6906 and a 5943 (both non TSW models) as a duty gun for years and always loved them, shot 100% and they were 100% reliable. I can't say enough nice things about them and encourage anyone who has the opportunity to snatch up a metal S&W while you still can.
