I just bought a 442-1 pro series, cut for moon clips. dry fire was fine but with live fire the cylinder would rub the barrel. I installed some end shake shims which helped but did not cure. I measured the length of the yoke and got 2.036". I measured the yoke from another 442-1 that I have and got 2.054". Eighteen thousandths difference seems a lot. Would one of you J framers measure the length of your 442-1yoke and advise. that would help me decide how to proceed. Does anyone know if there is a factory spec or are the yokes hand fitted.
Thanks in advance.

Yokes are fit to the individual frame. Can't help with a measurement because you aren't sufficiently specific as to what you are measuring!

If there is excessive end-shake in the cylinder you can shim it until there is .001" to .002" end-shake, no less or the gun will bind on the yoke.

If you can get .012 shims in and the cylinder still moves forward enough that the face hits the barrel extension either your yoke tube is way to short or the center hole in cylinder is way to deep. Like Alk8944 said it should be adjusted so the distance it moves forward from after being held tight against the recoil shield should be .001 to .002 I have change cylinders yokes etc. I have never needed anywhere near that much.

Not only are yokes fit to individual frames, but the cylinder and yoke are also fit together.

A thought, when loaded with empties and pressed to the rear, do the case hears bind against the top of recoil shield?

No way that's right.

While I am a dyed in the wool fix it myself guy that one need to go back home
