It's just my opinion and remember, you did ask for it!
I just got the 642 with no lock. It's so new I have not even had it to the range yet. I got the 642 because if its size for potential CCW and I think it was the better gun when compared to the Ruger. About the only Ruger I like anymore is the Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk line of single actions. I feel Ruger has somewhat gotten away from their core line of handguns. I remember the days of the Speed and Security Six revolvers, all steel and fine revolvers. I just don't personally care for any plastic on my handguns and even had a hard time accepting aluminum being used in them.
