Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and new to revolvers, and went ahead and ordered the 442 w/o internal lock.

Firstly, I'm not sure if anyone really cares, but I had a hard time finding the 442 w/o the lock at any local gun shops. If anyone is looking for it on the Budsgunshop site, you should do a search for the sku# 150544. When I first typed in 442 it didn't appear because the title didn't list it as a 442. The description will say that its the model without the internal lock and is going for $438 cash price. I apologize if no one really cares : )

Secondly, my CHL should be coming in in about a month and I was wondering how you guys prefer to carry these airlights concealed? Waist? Ankle? Wide cylinder bother you much? Favorite holster? I appreciate the time.

I'm not sure either.

Apology accepted.

You'll find members here carry them in every possible way. I knew a guy who hid one under the top of his cowboy hat to prove a point to a rookie about finding hidden guns.

I've been happy with a J-frame in a pocket, too tall/old/fat to try ankle carry. If I were to go through the trouble to put a real holster on my belt, it'll likely be for something bigger.

Welcome and enjoy the ribbing you'll get from some of us :D

haha thanks. i think i'd better thoroughly browse the forum before posting further questions

Welcome to the Forum!

The 442/642 Centennials are the quintessential pocket gun. That's what I'd suggest, and probably the way the majority of these guns are carried.

I use a Mika pocket holster, but there are quite a few excellent holster makers that could get you set up for pocket, or other carry.

Of course, if you pocket carry, you absolutely cannot have anything other than your gun and holster in that particular pocket. So you may have to make some adjustments on what goes where- that's usually the case when one is starting to carry on a regular basis.

Here are a couple of links you may find helpful:

Congrats on your new 442- carry it safely, and as often as you can. That's what it's made for ;D

I carry mine IWB around 5 o'clock in a tuckable leather holster. Great little friend to have along.

No lock carry is the only way! My 442s are carried in a Desantas Nemesis pocket holster in my right front pocket. It's there every day from church to work. I leave it in the truck if I go to the doctor, that's about it.

I also carry it sometimes in a Bianchi rh 55L lightnin belt holster under a jacket on the motorcycle, or in a RH Galco ankle holster (Model AG158) .

Remember to select a holster for the hammer less J frame for everything but pocket carry.

Just about the most perfect carry gun out there for basic comfortable carry.
Sure, not a lot of firepower, but it will get the job done if your not looking for trouble.
If I go to scumville, the 45 rides in the IWB with the 442 in the pocket or ankle rig.
The ankle rig is a slow draw but gives you flexibility.

Not a 442, but close.....
I prefer AIWB (appendix in waist band)...with a good gun belt...
That would be about 1:30...(12:00 being my belt buckle)
I sometimes pocket carry in a Mika pocket holster...

You'll just have to try a few different styles of carry because
it's "different strokes for different folks"...
It has a lot to do with your body type...

And you'll probably end up with a box of holsters like
the rest of us.....

Good luck....

The silver dollar pancake by Simply Rugged is about as practical a holster as you can find.

You can wear it strong side, cross draw, or get the optional loops and carry it inside your waist band.
I have a SR for my J-frames, one for 4" K-frames and one for 6" N frames.
I have my 640-1 in one on my hip right now.

Use the rubber grips. Carry IWB about 4 or 5 o'clock with grip pointed forward. Rubber grips tend to be sticky. Just tuck the revolver real low with the grip just over the waistband. No holster needed. I know motorcycle riders that carry all day all the time and the revolver never shifts position. I tryed it just for fun to see if it works. It works with light weight revolvers.

Some suggestions...

Mika round cut pocket holster
Galco Stinger belt holster
Comp-Tac Pro Undercover
Raven Concealment Systems Phantom
Remora clipless pocket/IWB holster
Kramer IWB clip
Barami Hip Grips
K.L. Null SKR shoulder holster

Perhaps the most flexible carry gun, evah?

I have a Null shoulder holster, Renegade ankle, various pocket rigs, Milt Sparks PMK, belly band or the "slip it in the waistband" option. I'm sure I'm missing a couple.....

I love's me some snubbie.

The vast majority of the time, my 642 is in a #3 Uncle Mike's pocket holster. If you get a chance, the Null plastic shoulder holsters are very nice and affordable. The draw stroke is proprietary and needs practice, but get one in white (you can also order it in black) and wear it on top of a white Under Armor type t-shirt with a cover garment (oversized Aloha shirt left untucked and unbuttoned) and you have a good carry method for hot climates. Before I received my CHL, I thought I would carry full-sized, K-frames, or H&K P-7 sized semi-autos, and a J-frame might be occassionally to rarely carried. Once I started carrying a firearm, I was astonished to discover what many have already learned: the J frame in your pocket beats anything you left at home, in the safe, etc. My EDC is either the 642 or 432PD with a .32ACP Seecamp as my NY Reload.

Best of luck,

Dave

As subjective as your question is, so are the answers you're likely to receive.

Ok first up? This forum (and others like it) is comprised of many a fine OCD anal gun owners that care very much about most anything 'guns'. As for holster selection, it's sorta like asking what kind of mattress or pillow is best. If you're anything like the rest of us, you'll end up with 4-5 holsters to pretty much match your wardrobe and activity level. Currently, I have 2-OWB styles, 2-IWB styles, & 1-Shoulder rig, and that's just for one model revolver.

If you're lucky enough to be satisfied with just one (unlikely) then you may start with something inexpensive like a $30.00 suede clip-on IWB just to see if you like that format. Until you're sure, stay away from the designer brands and exotic leathers.
